Love Run’s Price proves that age is just a number

For all you readers out there who would love to participate in races like the Love Run, but think that you missed that window of opportunity of life when you were young enough and fit enough to start running, meet Center City’s James Price.

For all you readers out there who would love to participate in races like the Love Run, but think that you missed that window of opportunity of life when you were young enough and fit enough to start running, meet Center City's James Price.

James Price started running two years ago at the age of 40 when he was inspired by his sister registering her first half marathon. He said, "I thought to myself, my sister has four kids, if she could do it, then I could too."

Previously he worked in finance and had led a more sedentary lifestyle. Then he started a new job at Trader Joe's and began to work out more and watch what he ate. In the beginning, he turned to cycling as his go-to work out, but then he became an avid runner. In a short period of time, he has ramped himself up to peak enough shape to participate in multiple races, including the Philadelphia Marathon and the Philadelphia Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon. He also has traveled for other half marathons.

He loves the Philadelphia Love Run though because it is right in his backyard. "I live right at Love Park and love the parkway. It seems impossible not to do this race."

"As the first half marathon of the year in Philadelphia, it is a good way to get in shape for the season," he added.

Price wasn't able to finish the inaugural Love Run last year because of a minor injury, but he is looking forward to this year's race. To train, he has been running with Philadelphia Runners, a local group that holds runs 3 times a week. Price likes to run 3-4 times a week to train.

"Training has been hard this winter because of the weather. I don't like the treadmills and prefer to train outdoors so I haven't been feeling in peak shape," he said. "Last week I had really good runs though. It was the first week that I felt ready to go."
