Wednesday, June 3, is National Running Day, a coast-to-coast celebration of the wonderful sport of running. On this day, longtime runners reaffirm their love of running, while beginners kick off a lifetime and life-changing commitment. Organizers encourage runners to join in by planning a run, spreading the running bug to a friend, signing up for a race, or setting a new goal.

Here in Philadelphia, some of the biggest names on our running scene have teamed up to help locals celebrate. The details:

On Wednesday at 6:25 a.m., you can enjoy National Running Day and Philly Beer Week with November Project's second annual Shoes and Brews event.

Meet the November Project crew at the Art Museum for a killer workout on the steps followed by a shoe drive. Show up with a pair of used running shoes (or any shoe, really) to donate and you'll receive a free beer form Jon Lyons of Southern Tier or from Lee Porter of Two Roads. (There will be root beer on hand for non-drinkers and those under the age of 21.) Philadelphia Runner will also give each donator a coupon to use on your next purchase of running shoes at any of their locations. ShoeBox Recycling will be there to tally the weight of your donations and contribute 50-cents per pound of shoes to local non-profits Back on My Feet Philadelphia and Students Run Philly Style.

Also happening on Wednesday, Back on My Feet will host their regular 5:30 a.m. Wednesday run during which, they'll be chalking the streets with #bomf to help spread awareness. They invite you to chalk your team's name on sidewalks and roads throughout the city and/or join in their morning run!

Philadelphia Runner will host two group runs of 3 miles to Rita's for free water ice. Runs will leave at 6 p.m. from their Manayunk store and head to Rita's on Ridge (5420 Ridge Street) and their University City store ending at Rita's on 22nd and South Streets.
