Tomorrow Congressman-elect John Adler, a Democrat from Cherry Hill, can drop the –elect from his name.

He is  scheduled to be sworn in to office tomorrow at about 5:30 p.m. to the seat he wrestled away from Republican hands.

Adler, a former Cherry Hill councilman and state senator, is the first Democrat in memory to be elected to the congressional district which runs through Burlington and Ocean counties and includes Cherry Hill in Camden County.

The seat had been held by former Republican U.S. Rep. James Saxton for 24 years.

The state legislature also loses state Sen. Leonard Lance, a Republican from Flemington. Lance was elected to replace former U.S. Rep. Mike Ferguson, a Republican.

While Camden County Democrats quickly decided that County Clerk James Beach would replace Adler in the senate, Republicans in Hunterdon and Warren counties are trying to figure out a Lance replacement. Top contenders include Republican Assembly members Marcia Karrow, of Hunterdon County, and Mike Doherty, of Warren County.
