Democratic Sen. Barack Obama tops Republican Sen. John McCain 51 percent to 41 among likely New Jersey voters, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released this morning.
Obama won support from 94 percent of black voters and had a 15 point lead among women voters, the poll found.
Republicans have talked up their chances of taking New Jersey's electoral votes for the first time since 1988, and Tuesday a washingtonpost.com map labeled the state a "battleground," but this is the second poll of the summer giving Obama a double-digit lead. A Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey poll released in July had Obama up by 14 points.
"New Jersey continues to wear its true blue stripes and appears to be solidly in Sen. Obama's corner heading into the fall campaign. Like most strong Republican contenders, Sen. John McCain can wish, but it is unlikely that he can swing the tide in New Jersey unless he swings the tide dramatically nationwide," said Clay Richards, assistant director of Quinnipiac's polling institute.

thats nice. I guess its because of the bang up job Jon Corzine did, they feel indebted to the DNC. Thank god in heaven I moved out of that cesspool.

it's either the corzine factor, or the tremendous job that governor bush has done the past 8 years, either one...

A third option would be that a majority of the New Jersey constituency is nuanced enough in their judgement to recognize that Obama offers the best chance for an enlightened approach to national leadership... something that has been missing for 8 years.

Wild Bill - there's bigger issues than Dem and Rep, look at the individual.

We should definitely vote the democrat in all cases. It is so obvious that all republicans are just mindless idiots. Look at where the enlightened approach of the democrats got New Jersey! High taxes, intrusive government, terrible roads, overcrowding and no money left over to spend.

"Are people forgetting the last decade or more of McCain and Bush butting heads?" --- No, people aren't forgetting. It just that the butting of heads never existed to begin with.

No, I am not wrong. The "maverick" McCain is a myth. Obviously McCain doesn't agree 100% with every single Bush decision. No sane person is arguing that. However, he agrees with a vast majority of those decisions. The number of issues where there is any significant disagreement can be counted on one finger.

I'm not sure I would use the word "nuanced" to describe one particular voting bloc endorsing Obama by 94%.
