The free July 4th “Let Freedom Rock Fest” at Cooper River Park has been cancelled due to “budgetary considerations,” the Camden County Board of Freeholders said Tuesday. The concert had been held each Independence Day for the past 10 years.

The county’s partner in the event, radio station WMGK-FM (102.9), will instead hold the rock fest, featuring Yes and Styx, at the Susquehanna Bank Center on the Camden waterfront. Tickets will be available for purchase. More information is available at www.wmgk.com.

“Unfortunately, Camden County has undergone severe budget cuts like every other municipality in New Jersey,” the radio station said. “Due to this they aren't able to partner with us to put on a free show this year.”

Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. suggested residents attend other festivities listed in the forthcoming Camden County Summer Events Guide.

“In these economic times, it is a good opportunity for you and your family to attend the local celebrations in your community,” Cappelli said.
