For the moment, Gov. Corzine can keep a lid on e-mails between him and his former girlfriend --  labor leader Carla Katz -- on the Q.T.

But he can’t keep the names Jon Corzine and Carla Katz out of the same sentence.

The Associated Press is reporting that a New Jersey appeals court this morning said he can keep the e-mails a secret but that it is likely the state Republican Party will appeal to the state Supreme Court to make their correspondence public.
 
The two exchanged e-mails during the 2007 contract talks between the state and its largest employees union – the Communications Workers of America. Katz was a union local president at the time.
 
CWA leaders alleged that the Katz and Corzine exchanges were inappropriate because of their prior romantic relationship.
 
The GOP did as well with Chairman Tom Wilson fighting for months to open up the e-mails to the public.
 
In 2005, when Corzine first ran for governor, his relationship with Katz caused some minor political problems after it was discovered that he helped her pay off a $470,000 mortgage. During the 2007 state worker contract talks, it was disclosed that he had given her a multi-million dollar settlement which allowed her to buy a $1.1 million Hoboken apartment in the same building where he lived
