Villanova prof confirmed to State Board of Education
Colleen Sheehan, a Villanova political science professor, was recently confirmed as a member of the Pennsylvania State Board of Education.
Gov. Tom Corbett recently announced a new edition to the Pennsylvania State Board of Education, Villanova political science professor Colleen Sheehan.
Sheehan, who lives in the Wayne section of Radnor Township and has taught American Political Theory and Jurisprudence at Villanova since 1986, was nominated by Corbett and confirmed as a board member by the state Senate on Nov. 14.
Sheehan serves as director of the Matthew J. Ryan Center for the Study of Free Institutions and the Public Good at Villanova, and previously served as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 149th Legislative District of Montgomery County from 1995 to 1996. She was appointed to the Governor's Advisory Committee on Academic Standards by then-Gov. Tom Ridge.
As a member of the State Board of Education, Sheehan and her peer board members will work with state educators, policymakers and the Department of Education to "review, develop and adopt regulations that governs significant components for both basic and higher education" in Pennsylvania, in addition to collaborating on other education policymaking-related functions, says the board's website.
