For first holiday in Little Theatre, Harcum College will host talent show

Harcum College invites the Main Line Community to perform and attend its "Talent at the Holidays" this December.

So far, Harcum College's community-wide show, "Talent at the Holidays" has one submission through YouTube and two people scheduled to audition in a little more than a week.

But Laurie Plaza, the coordinator of Harcum's Kevin D. Marlo Theatre, isn't too worried.

"People think about it, and then decide. Typically, they wait until the last minute," Plaza said. "I worked at a church before, and we did a talent show, and it was the same thing."

For Harcum College's first holiday season in the Little Theatre, the college is inviting members of the Main Line community to put on their tap shoes, tell a joke or belt out a song. In other words, Plaza needs entertainers for a talent show that will benefit the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Little Theatre opened at Harcum this fall, and Plaza said getting the word out to neighbors hasn't come quickly. The area is somewhat saturated with theaters and performing arts centers, Plaza said, adding that the theater has slowly added theatergoers through friends of people within the college who accompany them to shows.

"Part of the goal of this talent show is to bring in members of the community in a way that is light and fun," Plaza said. "I think Harcum wants to go back to a place where it's incorporating the arts and engaging with the community."

Performers who would like to audition can submit videos through YouTube by emailing Plaza the link before Dec. 2 or schedule an audition during the week of Nov. 28.

The show will be held Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Little Theatre. To benefit United Way, admission will be granted to anyone who brings a donation of three caned goods, a new piece of clothing, a toy, three toiletry items or a monetary contribution.

The Kevin D. Marlo Theatre is located at Montgomery and Morris Avenues at Harcum College. For more information, contact Laurie Plaza at lplaza@harcum.edu.
