Philadelphia Montessori Charter School students prepare to eat the tuna patties and roasted green beans that they learned to make during week 5 of the Spring 2017 My Daughter's Kitchen cooking program.

This week  at Philadelphia Montessori Charter School we made Tuna Patties and Roasted Green Beans. The kids were all very excited for this recipe, all of them saying that they loved green beans. Although they were all familiar with tuna, none of them have tried it in a patty form like we were doing today. Once we read the recipe out loud, we immediately got down to business. Sabria Reid zested the lemon. Sean Green and Nyshea Decius chopped the onion. Mariem Cherifahmed and Alayziah Toole peeled and cut the zucchini. It’s amazing how eager the kids are to participate in every aspect of the cooking. Even though they know that chopping the onions will make them cry they all want to do it. While the patties and green beans were cooking, Mariem Cherifahmed suggested that we make a sauce to eat with the meal. We concocted a delicious sauce with Dijon mustard, mayo, lemon juice, paprika, red pepper, salt, and pepper. Finally, once everything was cooked, we sat down to a lovely table that was set by all the kids combined. The kids all loved the tuna patties with the green beans and sauce. Sabria Reid said that it was her first time eating tuna ever but she really enjoyed it. At the end of the meal, everyone’s plates were licked clean!
