Bob Hamdamov stirs couscous with Tim Kelso, Susan Munafo, Sharon Horton, and Shamil Temirov during week 7 of the Spring 2017 My Daughter's Kitchen cooking program at Loesche.

Chop, chop, chop! Lots of preparation today with one sub and one former student. Fortunately, by this time, everybody was ready to work quickly. Rhubarb was a new food for everybody so we were anxious to see how it tasted. We also had to reread the recipe several time because there were many different parts to it. Into the oven it went while we chopped the veggies and the chicken. The turmeric and cumin had strong smells so we were not sure how they would taste. Bob Hamdamov said, “I think it will taste like chicken soup” and Jada Montgomery thought it would taste like vegetable soup. They were surprised that when it cooked up, there was no more broth. The spices gave it a different flavor but it was a winner with everyone, even the adults. The rhubarb strawberry bars were a different story. Nobody wanted to take them home so it will be interesting to see what the adults think next week when we make it for them. They all agreed though that they have learned a lot about foods and how to cook them.
