Our young Urban Promise chefs arrived eager to cook baked cornflake chicken and braised greens. Since one of our students is allergic to dairy, we substituted almond milk and everyone favorably sampled a few sips. We added new words to our culinary vocabulary including braise, skillet, and fragrant. The chicken was a universal success, and although everyone tried the greens, not all enjoyed them. Jasmine Trieu noted they were bitter while Cymara Williams savored her kale both raw and cooked.
