We don't watch the teacher cook; we do the cooking

Sanaa Burton and Desiree White prep ingredients during week 1 of the Spring 2018 My Daughter's Kitchen cooking program at Gesu School.

Week one went very well here at Gesu!  The girls were very excited get started and learn what they would be making and about how the class would unfold these next few weeks.  This group has a strong teamwork dynamic and it showed throughout the whole session.  We have some all star dicers and choppers!  We actually heard one of the girls say “finally a class I can actually do the cooking instead of watching it be done in!”  We were so proud of the girls and all their hard work.  Trying black beans was new for each of them and seemed to be a common dislike amongst them, but they did in fact all sample with an open mind before learning their taste for them.
C’nya Barber wrote in her journal a very honest but reflective entry about the first meal listed below:
“I think this meal was ok.
Eggs-were my favorite
Beans-I feel like the beans ruined my meal
Cheese-added some extra flavor
Peppers-I had some fun cutting the peppers
Overall I had some fun.”
