The Russell Byers students beamed with pride as they served their parents and guests three of their favorites: rosemary chicken drumsticks, simple green salad with lemon vinaigrette, and carrot cake. As they reflected on what they learned over the course of the semester, their parents remarked on how impressed they were. Arione Blanchard said his son Djimon had recently started experimenting in the kitchen at home. "I think this class sparked something in him," said Blanchard. "He really likes to cook now, and he helped cook at Thanksgiving." The students buzzed around the kitchen with their characteristic unbridled enthusiasm until the very last moments of the class. "Can't we just do one more load of dishes?" asked Athanasios Mondlak, who really enjoyed operating the commercial dishwasher in the Free Library's Culinary Literacy Center.
