Getting the gift of cooking

It was a frenzied scene during this week's bittersweet session. The students made intermittent comments regarding the sadness they felt that it was the last class.

For our party, we made Rosemary Chicken, Pasta Bolognese, Salad, and Carrot Cake. The students were all seasoned chefs at this point, and it was so nice to see the progress they made.

Throughout the session, we kept asking the students to close the door. It wasn't their fault the door kept opening - it was the school's faculty members who couldn't contain their curiosity. "It just smells so good in the hallway! What are you cooking today?" asked Awbury staff member Jason Trotman. He was asked to join us, along with other faculty, at our year-end feast.

Just before our company arrived, we handed out the wooden spoons and certificates to the fifth-graders. They screamed with happiness to know they have their very own utensil to use in their kitchen at home. Hugging hers, India McLeod said, "This is mine, and no one else better use this!" 

Radiant Magnetic's mom, Radiyah Bankhead, came over to thank me. She said that Radiant only wants one thing for the upcoming holiday: a cookbook. We know she (and the others) will continue to create great meals!
