Giants' Smith issues Super Bowl reminder to McCoy

POSTED: Sunday, June 19, 2011, 9:20 AM

The jabs continued Saturday as Giants wide receiver Steve Smith issued a reminder to LeSean McCoy.

On his Twitter account, Smith posted the following message with a link to the photo you see to the left:

The nerve of certain youngins running their mouth. Please don't forget [photo link]

He later added:

Eagles have a great team as do we. They've had our number lately but until you win something major I don't wanna hear it. #endthelockout

Smith's comments came a day after Osi Umenyiora responded strongly to McCoy calling him out during the week.

Smith battled injuries last year, but has 20 catches for 201 yards in four career games against the Eagles. He's part of a wide receiver group that Dan Graziano of ESPN.com ranks the best in the NFC East.

Graziano had the Cowboys second and the Eagles third:

As for the Eagles... hey, I love what DeSean Jackson brings, and I'm a huge fan of Jeremy Maclin's speed. But I can't buy Jackson as a true No. 1 when he only caught 47 passes last year and, as Williamson points out, caught three or fewer in half of his team's games.

The reason he only catches 47 is because he takes off all the plays that are not for him. When he matures, and gets away from the me stage(Rosenhaus), he will be more productive. Watch the film, not the ball, it is obvious what is happening. He is a total game changer, but how many more great plays could he make if he played hard all the time. If you are going to tell me that at his size , he can't do that, then he should not look for #1 money. Just an opinion.

Was McCoy on the team during the Super Bowl year? Otherwise, all he's done is run for 7 YPC against the Giants.

How do you figure? Macoy injected himself in something that had nothing to do with him or the Eagles.
And why would the Giants be insecure when it comes to the Eagles? You guys have proven time and time again unable to win the big game.

So, I guess the game last year in Fake Meadowlands Stadium wasn't a big game? You know, the one where the Giants blew the biggest 4th quarter lead of the season? Where DeSean Jackson's walkoff punt return effectively ended the Giants' season? Yeah, you're right, the Super Bowl is the only big game of the year. Except that you don't get a shot at it when you miss the playoffs, like the Giants did last year after they lost a big game to the Eagles.

    I'm just saying.

Steve Smith wasn't on the team that won the championship. He was drafted the next year. He sounds like an idiot. Don't talk about something you had nothing to do with. What a fraud.

You really should do your homework before you make a comment. Smith was in fact a rookie on the Super Bowl winning team, had 5 catches and even converted a 3 and 11 with under a minute to go right before Plax caught the clincher.
Who sounds like an idiot now?

big kahuna, I actually disagree with your theory about DeSean becoming more productive as he matures....His best asset is the fact that he's the fastest out there..and that'll last for about 2-3 more years tops...he's a supreme athlete like Iverson...but when that elite speed leaves him, he will depreciate quickly, similar to Steve Smith of the Panthers....Larger bodied WR's are the ones that ripen like wine.

the problem the Giants have is that they still have little Manning at QB. doesn't matter how much talent they have at the WR position.

Maybe this is a good omen. The phillies went on a great roll after rollins trash talked the mets. Not sure, nor do I care where Burress ends up but the giants offense has been impotent without him.

If you look at each team's overall passing numbers from last year, they are extremely close. Targets, catches, receiving yards and TDs. What separates them, though, is completions over 20 yards and over 40. The Eagles had 15 over 40 yards while Dallas and NY had that combined. So if the other numbers are virtually identical, how can you rank the others ahead when there's no comparison in the big play catagory?

im an eagles fan and i will have to agree with smith, the eagles need to shut up until we get a trophy and rings before we run our mouths, even though that last win for the vagiants was a lucky catch by a player no longer with the team,we dont have any trophy so they need to just go out and win one.tada

Yeah, the Eagles have not one the SB yet and this is a "what have you done for me lately" league. With that said......please replay the "Miracle of the Meadowlands II". Did Osi play that day? Or did he take the 4th quarter off? We ran to the left in that quarter. Maybe that is what the Giants FO is looking at. Just sayin'

Just look in the history books of football...losers!

    Big Blue Sissy,
Question, what have you done lately?
Week 11 at Lincoln Financial, Sissies lose 27-17.
On 12/19/10 at Sissylands Stadium the score was 24-10. At the end of the game it was 31-38. Big Choke Job. You lose. No Playoffs for you.

You can't talk. Green Bay won the Super Bowl. Sissies watched playoffs on tv.
