Would Kolb make sense for Cleveland?

A flurry of links to get to today.
We start with a column from Michael Lombardi of the National Football Post, which suggests an Eagles-Browns deal involving Kevin Kolb would make sense for both teams. What should the Birds ask for in return? Defensive tackle Shaun Rogers.
Writes Lombardi:
Rogers would be a gap closer on the field. He would give the Eagles a dominating inside player, something they don’t currently have on their roster and someone who can match up with the Cowboys’ size along their offensive line. Rogers is signed to a long-term deal, he’s kept his weight down and he was a model citizen in Cleveland last season - all of which would be appealing to the Eagles. Kolb gives the Browns a future quarterback, something Holmgren knows he needs, without having to part with a draft pick. This trade might be a win/win for both teams.
As I said earlier this week, I don't see how it makes sense for the Eagles to part ways with Kolb. From all indications, he's their quarterback of the future, regardless of the direction they choose to go in next season. If they stick with McNabb, Kolb provides a serviceable backup, which they need. If McNabb's dealt, Kolb gets his chance to start. He's under contract for another year and would become a restricted free agent in 2011.
I can't envision a scenario where they'd deal him for a defensive tackle that will turn 31 before next season, especially when their current DTs are former first-round picks. But then again, I didn't envision the scenario where they drafted Kolb in the first place. And I didn't envision the scenario where they brought in Michael Vick last summer.
In other words, I don't envision a lot of things the Eagles do beforehand, so I can't say anything would surprise me at this point.
McNabb and Denver
An ESPN report surfaced Sunday that said the Denver Broncos were one of a handful of teams that had discussed the possibility of adding McNabb. But two sources tell The Denver Post's Jeff Legwold emphatically that there is "no truth" to reports that Denver would be a landing spot for him.
Lito's Bonus
Thought this was funny. Manish Mehta of the Newark Star-Ledger Tweeted about Lito Sheppard yesterday. He said he asked Lito if he was flexible on the $10M bonus he's due. "I think I'm worth it," Lito said. "That's flexible."
Vanden Bosch
The Titans' Kyle Vanden Bosch has been mentioned as one of the few pass rushers that could be available in free agency. Last week we wrote about Vanden Bosch's comments that a return to Tennessee seemed unlikely, but coach Jeff Fisher seems to disagree.
"Kyle's not the first player who's not been contacted," Fisher told Gary Estwick of The Tennessean . "We had some discussions prior to the start of the season."
- It would have to be Rogers + a 2nd rounder. Otherwise, the deal makes no sense. Plus, adding Rogers to the roster would take playing time from Patterson, who has been quite good in his Eagles career.
The NFL rumor mill - worth about the lint in my pocket. Jeez, what a stupid scenario - giving up a possible young, starting QB for a 30-some DT??? Give em McNabb. McNabb has been an all-timer here, but he is not a pressure game, put the game in my hands, 4th Q QB. He's done what he can here - and we all owe him a debt of gratitude. Let's remember this - for all the flaws of Reid, he can coach up QBs. Hell, did AJ Feeley do anything at Miami? And they picked Kolb after they saw how fluid this offense was under Garcia. It's time for Kolb - he was groomed for this system, the supporting cast will make it an easy transition, and since the defense will take time to get back to playoff-worthy, this is the time to hand the keys to Kolb. Move McNabb - get a 1 and a 3 for him (San Fran, Denver, Arizona...nowhere terrible...he deserves that). Give the reigns to Kolb. It's time - we're not going to the SB anytime soon, let's see what we got with Kevin. Dean1
Still playing Bob Barker JD? Coming off your "Mick Vick for at least a 2nd"? JJ & SMacD both used a 3 tackle rotation, with Bunk and Patt moving outside from time to time. So a new DT would really be replacing Trevor Laws, which I think most fans who watched this season could live with. Personally, Im done with McNabb. Keep Kolb. dragoon6
Are the Eagles smoking some funny cigarettes or on a steady diet of dog food? I hope not because in my mind that's the only thing that would have them considering trading Kevin Kolb. Kolb is the QB of the future and one I might add who can do it all. Go ahead trade him to an NFC team so he can come back every few years and kick their behinds soundly and remind them what they gave up....... The Manager
McNabb goes to Chicago, the Bears trade Cutler to the Redskins (Where he's reunited with Shanahan who drafted him), and the Eagles get the Skins #1 and #3 picks. Of course the Bears and Skins would kick our butts next year.... DerbyBound- i love how this national writer throws in a reference that the Eagles value "model citizens." They signed a convicted felon last off-season, so they are hardly recruiting samaritans. jb99
- I dont know where Mike Lombardi gets his info. He is clearly a McNabb lover and is the only "expert" coming up with a scenario where Kolb gets traded. Sounds like a dumb idea to me. Lombardi also agrees with Reid that "its a passing league" and you "need to pass" to score points. Hes probably best friends with Reid since thier both fat and like passing offenses, so he doesnt want to critisize Reid and McNabb. Lombardi is probably the dumbest "expert" I have ever seen.
Why not trade MCNABB To Cleveland for Shaun Rogers and some draft choices...Lombardi is on the right track but wrong train... Smashmouth

If McNabb could actually win some big games it might make sense, but at this point you have Jackson, Maclin, Celek, and McCoy who would be better off having Kolb grow with them instead of keeping McNabb. Maybe Eagles ownership should get back to the "gold standard" and build a team that can win a SB, trade McNabb and Reid and go from there. carmichael17

Kolb is going nowhere....HE is Andy's boy......but McNabb and Vick will be gone and hopfully a 2 and 4 and a 3 and 5..... nuggett
It's time to make a change, give the kid a shot, Mcnabb won't win it anywhere he goes, just does not play well in pressure playoff situations kramer65
Kolb's is Andy's 3rd string QB. He loves him dearly. After Matt Cassel no one would want to pay much for a back up or 3rd string QB. Seed
