Would Fitzgerald lobby for McNabb?

Would Larry Fitzgerald welcome Donovan McNabb in Arizona? (Eric Mencher / Staff Photographer)

Two years ago, Eagles fans had dreams of luring Larry Fitzgerald away from the Cardinals and teaming him up with Donovan McNabb.

Those were the days when every wide receiver rumor involved the Birds, regardles of how unrealistic each one seemed.

Now, a similar scenario is playing out, except in reverse.

Fitzgerald joined WIP's Howard Eskin last week and was asked if McNabb would be playing for the Cardinals next season.

"I doubt it very seriously," Fitzgerald said. "... How do you turn a quarterback away that's taken you to the promise land every single year? I mean he's been in the league 11 years, eight playoff appearances. Name me another quarterback that's done that, besides Peyton Manning."

But if McNabb were on the market, would Fitzgerald consider going to Cardinals management and urging them to make a run at him?

After some laughter, he responded, "Donovan's an amazing quarterback, one that anybody would love to play with, but I think Matt's [Leinart] ready to take the reins and lead us."

Asked one more time if he'd lobby for McNabb, Fitzgerald laughed again before saying, "I don't think Andy Reid wants to lose McNabb."

He tried not to ruffle any feathers, but Fitzgerald certainly did not sound like he'd be upset if the Cardinals entertained the thought of acquiring McNabb.

Meanwhile, another radio clip you have to listen to. Former Redskin, Giant and Penn State Nittany Lion LaVar Arrington delivered a tremendous radio rant in response to comments made by his ex-teammate, Clinton Portis.

If you have some time today, definitely give it a listen. Just another chapter in the PSU-Miami rivalry, I guess. JoePa would be proud with this one.

Take the reins, not the reigns. Learn how to spell or get a dictionary. Oh, that's right, as a poster on another article pointed out, Tierney has sold them all.

Would Larry want Donovan throwing him TD's all year? Please, no point in asking a question with an obvious answer. Look, all you Philly fans that have never lived outside the region have no idea the level of respect the other 31 teams, and their respective fans, have for McNabb. I live in AZ, also spent four years in Atlanta, and have met more fans of other teams that praise McNabb in those two regions than you will ever find in Donovan's own home town. The 1st question they always ask is if I'm a Donovan fan or not, and I always say "wholeheartedly, huge supporter" and the next question is how can so many Eagle fans bash an elite QB. And since I can't understand the level of idiocracy needed to bash a Pro Bowl QB who gives everything he has on the field, I tell them I don't know.

Bleue, I live in Philly and I'm not an Eagles fan. I say that to reveal my objectivity. That being said, McNabb is no longer an elite QB. The Eagles probably wasted his best years by giving him James Thrash and Todd Pinkston as WR's. He's just not the same player anymore without the ability to run. Teams know that and they just drop back into coverage and watch McNabb throw inaccurately. His inability to be a consistent passer hurts this team because they cannot sustain drives. If it's not for big plays from DeSean Jackson this team isn't scoring. Fitzgerald was just being complimentary and I don't think he's lying saying Reid isn't going to let McNabb go. The Eagles will continue to not be good enough under McNabb.

McNabb would be a perfect fit for the Cardinals because Fitzgerald is the ONLY receiver that could leap high enough to catch those "air missiles" McNabb is fond of throwing. the worm burners would require an entirely different type of receiver. Perhaps Minnie Me?

what fitzgerald was trying to politely say is NO. a wopping 32% of eagle fans want mcwaddle according to the recent philly.com poll. i read talk of trading mcwaddle which is just talk. ain't no pro team want a overweight, injury prone, overpaid quarterback whose track records speaks for itself "cannot perform in meaningfull games throughout an 11 year career". i'm saying pro teams which doesn't include oakland.

It really seemed he was going out of his way after asked 3 or 4 times to not say yes... he also wasw smart enough not to throw his own QB under the bus unlike someone like T.O...... even though McNabb would be a huge upgrade over Lienart
