Will Eagles miss out on playoffs?
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
The Eagles have made the playoffs in eight of the last 10 seasons.
But will they be on the outside looking in as the Kevin Kolb era begins?
Pat Kirwan of NFL.com takes a look at the 12 teams that made the playoffs in 2009 and ranks them based on which are most likely to not get back this season. He has the Eagles third on that list. According to Kirwan, only the Cardinals and Patriots are more likely to miss the postseason:
Trading Donovan McNabb and turning the team over to Kevin Kolb sounds like what Green Bay did when Brett Favre left. It may take a year.
The Packers team Kirwan is talking about went 6-10 with Aaron Rodgers at the helm in 2008. It should be noted though that five of their 10 losses were by three points or less, and seven of their 10 losses were by four points or less.
Meanwhile, not sure if anyone still cares about Governor Ed Rendell's comments, but he tried to explain himself during an interview with Fox 29. Rendell didn't really backtrack from his earlier remarks. He maintains that he'll root for the Redskins and Donovan McNabb if they make the playoffs and the Eagles do not this season.
"I just think we have weakened our team," Rendell said. "And no offense to Kevin Kolb. I hope I am wrong. I hope he is a winning NFL quarterback. But I don’t suspect next year he’s going to be able to step in and take us to the playoffs."

Eagles are better team this year than last year; only questionable part is Kolb. If Kolb has any Jason Campbell level talent, Eagles will make play off. Remember Jason made playoff, we will see if Kolb is at his level. Seed
Brandon Graham and Trent Cole off the edge is going to have alot of impact on the defense. Asante Samuel is a ballhawk, Eagles getting Stewart Bradley back and Mikell and Allen closing off the back field. Eagles Defense is easily in the top 5 this year and KolbInterception Machine needs to STFU because he knows nothing about football or the Eagles because the Eagles will win more than 4 games this year. briandawkins20- Yea BirdsSuck I noticed how the Eagles stink I hate their mediocre 10 win seasons. Everyone makes the playoffs in NFL ...right? oh wait..
- Gonna be a great year. We get to watch the beginning of a new Eagles NFC east dynasty. Here's hopin this version becomes a league dynasty. I think the potential of the current squad exceeds the level of our former rosters. It all depends on how much they put into reaching that potential, and if Reid has learned from his mistakes of the past. Namely, coaching with some b*lls, winning football takes b*lls.
Fast Eddie is equally poor as a fan as he is as governor.......He may be glib......but so is a sleazy used car salesmem/politican/lawyer......oops same thing ...he has it all..... nuggett
What the heck does Rendell know about football? PhillyTru
Our governor ought to be concerning himself with the welfare of the state and not the playoff prospects of one of its football teams. He's already wasted enough of his and our time on Post Game Live. BResponsible- Fast Eddie is a "lame duck", or more accurately, just "lame". Who cares what he thinks or who he'll root for. He should have spent more time trying to run the Commonwealth during his tenure than giving his meaningless opinion(s) about football after Eagles games....loser. dogman5
Let's see. We have one running back of questionable durability and nothing else proven. A quarterback who[s only success was lighting up KC, and who has a tendency to throw interceptions under pressure. An offensive line without its starting center for most of the season and with questionable starters at left and right tackle. A punter that is erratic. A defensive line that can't stop the run A linebacking corps that in the best of times is susceptible to the TE over the middle and can't stop a tunning back behind the line. A defenive backfield with a ball hawk that refuses to come up and stop the run and three other guys, A defensive coach in his second year who hasn't yet established his game. And a offensive coordinator and head coach who dicker so much on what play to call that there is usually only ten seconds to get the play run. Plus the new QB does not have any escapability. Sounds like no playoffs, and 5-11 or 6-10 angrybear
Hey Angry Bear, its May 22nd. Little early to completely bail on the team. Why don't you just go buy your cowboys jersey now, if you don't already own one. BResponsible
YES, they will miss out. Roseman did not fill all the defensive holes. With all the draft selections the Eagles had he came up short, he needed corners and DT. If he could not fix all that was broken in a draft with 12 piclks and full of quality defensive players, he'll never get it done. lerze77
ToBResponsible. I am an older person that you, so I remember the bad Eagle teams of the Pre Buddy and Post Buddy Era. I lived in Dallas and the Southwest and never waivered from rooting for the Eagles. Its just that when you get older you lose the rose colored glasses. I see a team that won four games last year on D McNabbs arm and playmaking, Had they not won those four games they would have been out of the playoff and 7-9. You lose the QB that brought you their and the running back with some playmaking ability plus the starting center and I do not see the offense as being better. The defense is questionable and has not added enough to make it better. PS Adults don't fantasize that they are football players and wear jerseys. We just watch the games for their entertainment value. We use our emotion to worry about the fact that our economy is collapsing, that our civil liberties and being taken away, and that the people in DC seem intent on starting a war in Iran that could easily erupt into WWIII. angrybear
Here's the thing that everyone seems to lack...NOBODY knows how well Kolb with play, how well McNabb will play with Shanahan or how well Jason Campbell with play in Oakland. Kolb may be great...he may be terrible. He could go on and win four SB's or he could never make the playoffs. He's got talent, he's got potential...but potential means you've never done it. It's a wait and see. The team has a lot of holes and question marks on both sides of the ball. We'll see...I'm an Eagles fan first. I root for the players on the team---not against them no matter who they are... Eilex826
Angry Bear. I've been a fan since I was six. When Joe Kuharich was coach. So don't go preaching about "getting older & rose colored glasses". Like I said, its May 22nd. With the way teams turn over personel, coaches, etc., it really is way too soon to call. Did you think the Saints were the favorite for the Super Bowl this time last year? Of course not. BResponsible
Man, you guys are pathetic. Talk about jumping ship! Thank God none of you idiots are a part of this organization. You'd run the thing into the ground in a year. The Eagles have been really good at knowing when to let go of guys who are a bit older and - though may have a year or two left - aren't going to be as good. McNabb was great but Kolb's the guy going forward. You knew it had to happen sometime. This team's going to be good for a long time - as long a Reid is around. Remember what happened after Vermeil left. Be careful what you wish for. The Eagles will be fine. Let's give 'em a chance before we crucify 'em. Reid's built a pretty good system that's worked better than 95% of the rest of the NFL for the last 12 years. If I was a betting man I'd go with the guy who's been successful. 1983ufgator
