Will Eagles miss out on playoffs?

POSTED: Saturday, May 22, 2010, 5:53 PM

The Eagles have made the playoffs in eight of the last 10 seasons.

But will they be on the outside looking in as the Kevin Kolb era begins?

Pat Kirwan of NFL.com takes a look at the 12 teams that made the playoffs in 2009 and ranks them based on which are most likely to not get back this season. He has the Eagles third on that list. According to Kirwan, only the Cardinals and Patriots are more likely to miss the postseason:

Trading Donovan McNabb and turning the team over to Kevin Kolb sounds like what Green Bay did when Brett Favre left. It may take a year.

The Packers team Kirwan is talking about went 6-10 with Aaron Rodgers at the helm in 2008. It should be noted though that five of their 10 losses were by three points or less, and seven of their 10 losses were by four points or less.

Meanwhile, not sure if anyone still cares about Governor Ed Rendell's comments, but he tried to explain himself during an interview with Fox 29. Rendell didn't really backtrack from his earlier remarks. He maintains that he'll root for the Redskins and Donovan McNabb if they make the playoffs and the Eagles do not this season.

"I just think we have weakened our team," Rendell said. "And no offense to Kevin Kolb. I hope I am wrong. I hope he is a winning NFL quarterback. But I don’t suspect next year he’s going to be able to step in and take us to the playoffs."

The Eagles will make the playoffs this year and win the divison. Kevin Kolb has targets to pass to in Jackson, Maclin, and Celek and the Defense will be amazing this year with Trent Cole and Brandon Graham coming off the edge. If the Eagles can get to the quaterback with cole and graham and not blitz, they can drop linebackers and defensive backs back and get alot of picks this year and take pressure off of the cornerbacks. Kevin Kolb and the Eagles Defense leads the Eagles to 11 or 12 wins this year.

No doubt. I loved McNabb but I think Kolb's quick release will serve him well. He's got a pretty good group around him and I'll bet the offensive line will be better. The defense could end up being scary if a few chips fall their way. Allen at FS and Graham at end could be huge, couple that with Bradley's return and the Eagles general ability to fill the gaps and I think it's a 10 or 11 win season. I don't care what any of you guys say Andy Reid runs a phenomenal system. Go Biiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrrdddddddddssssssss!!!!!!

For the most part, we're fine on O........all of the questions are on our D-line and secondary.

Wasn't he driving the "Draft Ricky Williams over Donovan McNabb bandwagon"?

It's always good to follow TKIMS. Anything I write will look smart in comparison. I expect Kolb will throw more INT's than McNabb. Donovan had one of the lowest INT rates in the league. With experience and a better offense around him Kolb will be fine.

Not trying to be cynical but this coaching staff and fo gets too many passes. It's not to say that a team can turn around after losing stars but their drafts have been horrible outside of Jax and Maclin. Everybody else has been cut or sits on the bench until they get cut. You're starting to see the results of all this trading down nonsense. No rookie of the years, 1 probowler (10) nothing but a bunch of role players playing out of position. This team is done. Last years playoff loss was the beginning!
