What they're saying: Eagles' stock dropping

POSTED: Thursday, November 19, 2009, 9:03 AM

After back-to-back losses, the Eagles have fallen off the national radar.

Here is a roundup of links and power rankings from around the Web:

SI.com's Don Banks has the Birds 12th in his power rankings:

The good news is the Eagles won't travel further west than Chicago and Dallas the rest of the regular season. The past three times Philly played in the Pacific time zone, depressing things have happened. There was last January's NFC title game loss at Arizona, the Week 6 debacle in Oakland, and Sunday's defeat at San Diego. These Birds apparently are not made for flying long distances.

The Eagles fell completely out of Peter King's Fine Fifteen.

ESPN.com has the Eagles 12th.

ESPN.com's John Clayton has no answers for the Eagles' inability to win close games:

The Eagles' inability to win close games is becoming a major mystery in the league. I don't know why, either. How can a team that has been to five NFC title games not win close games during the regular season? By my count, Donovan McNabb is 1-8-1 in his past 10 games decided by eight points or fewer. I can't buy the notion that Reid can't manage the clock. He always wins first-round playoff games, and bad clock managers don't win playoff games. I also can't figure out how McNabb could have a career record worse than .500 in these close games. McNabb manages the game well and has a great arm. It's a mystery, but if they don't solve it, the Eagles won't have to worry about the playoffs.

Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com has the Eagles 11th:

They might want to stay away from the West Coast. That is two bad games out there after losing to the Chargers on Sunday. Was that their defense we saw against San Diego?

Pro Football Talk has the Eagles 13th.

OK, these aren't all the links. But Internet is down at the Kapadia apartment so I have been typing from the Cosi at 4th and Chestnut. Now it's back to wait for the Comcast man, who has so graciously given me a two-hour window in which he'll arrive. Hopefully he'll also get me the Red Zone channel. I'll be back later with more links.

On a sidenote, as my Twitter followers know, there was a couple in their mid-40s making out right across from me at Cosi. What's wrong with people? Don't they know we're living in a society here! I like the suggestion from @FireJerryManuel, who suggested standing up and cheering "Yeah! Kiss her! Woo hoo!"

Maybe I'll try it next time. They just left.

I wish the eagles had an elite QB not just a good QB. Watching the Indy game last week Manning threw 1 ball in the dirt and the announcers said "that's like halley's comet, it happens only once ever 20 years" All I can think is I see it almost 20 times a game w/ McNabb. Reid always wasting time out's so we have none at the end of the game. When are they ever going to run a decent 2 min drill?

National guys are always behind the real world in any city...We have know for a long time that Andy does not want to win it all...Joe is to tight to pay to win it all and Jeffery just wants moeny and has no priority to WIN IT ALL.....Jeff is happy making money...Joe is trailing closely behind Jeff and is a penny pincher ane Andycould care less....

Been following the Birds since gradeschool (a long, long time ago) and have never been as down about them as I am now (yes even the Kotite years) and even though I appreciate what Andy and Donovan have done and tried to do I am ready for a change, hey, even if they both go to the same team and happen to win the big one with their new team, then good for them, but right now things need to go in another direction, if you are somewhere for 10 or more seasons and you don't get it done then go try somewhere else. I don't like saying it but they have overstayed their welcome! Just sayin'...

The QBs with the most similar career stats (TD:INT, W/L and Compl.%) to McNabb are Neil O'Donnell and Mark Brunnell according to NFL.com. P.S. Neither of them ever won a SB either.

"By my count, Donovan McNabb is 1-8-1 in his past 10 games decided by eight points or fewer" Once McNabb decided he was a "bonafide pocket passe" instead of a scrambler, he can't win the close ones.

No team wins a Super Bowl without a valid running game, close games included. If there is, name them. Hasn't over 100 years of football proven that? The problem we have is Air-Coryell is still alive. You have a veteran fullback and a hungry YOUNG running back. The offensive line knows when a run is going to occur, that's all the surprise you need. Don't tell me that huge line can't block and have one work at least half the time it's attempted. Leave the book opened on the table where it belongs and bring your interpretation of it to the game, adjust, it's NOT ROCKET SCIENCE, IT'S FOOTBALL for crying out loud! Aren't professionals supposed to be at least one level above the ameteurs?

The Eagles can't win on the West Coast yet they run a West Coast offense. Airfare out of Philly to Miami in February are down to what?
