What they're saying about the Eagles

Here's the weekly roundup of what the national media are saying about the 4-3 Eagles as they enter their bye week.

Here's the weekly roundup of what the national media are saying about the 4-3 Eagles as they enter their bye week.

Adam Schein of FoxSports.com rips Kevin Kolb for his performance against the Titans:

My guy Kolb, who I've said should be the guy in Philly, was just horrendous. I can't even try to defend him after his inept play in a gigantic spot. I can't rant and rave about Kolb over Vick any more. Kolb lost it. I am on record saying the Eagles are better with Kolb, citing his accuracy, leadership, and rapport with DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Brent Celek. Kiss it all good-bye. The goodwill is gone.

SI.com's Peter King has the Eagles 12th in his weekly rankings:

The Eagles play offense well enough to be the best team in the NFC. Sometimes.

Andy Reid, for sticking with Michael Vick. It's the most logical step because Kevin Kolb didn't do enough to outplay him over the past two weeks.

SI.com's Don Banks has the Eagles 10th in his power rankings:

With a win at Tennessee, the Eagles could have joined the Giants as the emerging elite class in the NFC. But Philly faded in the fourth quarter and now comes its bye week before a Nov. 7 home game against the Colts. For what it's worth, I think Andy Reid's shift back to a healthy Michael Vick at quarterback is once again the right move.

ESPN.com has the Eagles 11th:

No "wow" factor in Kevin Kolb in Week 7 loss to Titans, giving Michael Vick the start after bye.

Matt Williamson of ESPN.com has Nate Allen 10th in his rookie rankings:

Allen didn't play great against Atlanta and looked like a rookie last week. Still an excellent prospect, he is coming back down to Earth.

Bucky Brooks of NFL.com has Allen third in his Defensive Rookie of the Year rankings:

Brian Dawkins' shadow still looms large in Philadelphia, but Allen's play is slowly making fans envision another perennial Pro Bowler roaming in the back end.

Albert Breer of NFL Network writes about the relationship between Vick and Kolb:

Each has plenty invested here. For Kolb, it's the four years of development in the Eagles offense, and the chance to remain in Philadelphia long-term. For Vick, it's reviving his career and completing a comeback from a jail sentence that, no matter how you feel about his prior transgression, is very remarkable. Yet, these fishing and golfing buddies are able to handle it, thrive individually, and keep the shuffle from splitting the locker room or hurting the club's prospects too much. That reflects pretty well on them.

Michael Lombardi of NFL.com criticizes the Eagles for the way they finished last weekend's game:

The Eagles faced a tough matchup, especially on the road, as the Titans are built to rush the passer and create havoc, which they did against the Eagles' offensive line. Yet, not scoring the last four possessions of the game and allowing 27 fourth-quarter points is not the way to win on the road.

Adam Caplan of FoxSports.com has the Eagles 15th in his power rankings:

Just when I was starting to think this team might be very good, they came up short. They played very well for three quarters last week at Tennessee, but collapsed in the fourth quarter. You can see how opposing defenses have an easier time against Philadelphia with WR DeSean Jackson out of the lineup.

Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com has the Eagles 12th:

It's back to Mike Vick at quarterback. Kevin Kolb played himself out of a chance to start with his performance last week in Tennessee. This could be a season-long issue for Andy Reid.

Michael Silver of Yahoo Sports still has the Eagles eighth in his power rankings:

What do Philly's defensive backs and Harold Pointer – allegedly – have in common?

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com has the Eagles 14th:

The up-and-down Eagles need a week off. As long as the good version of the team shows up on November 7 to play the Colts.

Gregg Rosenthal of ProFootballTalk.com says Kolb made Reid's decision easy last week:

Don't get me wrong; Kolb played some great football the last month and wasn't a total lost case Sunday. But he missed throws consistently that Reid dialed up for big plays down the field. Kolb was lucky to have only two interceptions and he averaged under five yards per pass.

USA Today has the Eagles 13th in its power rankings.

Football Outsiders has the Eagles sixth in its overall rankings. The offrense ranks fourth, the defense ranks 10th and the special teams 25th.
