NFC playoff picture

POSTED: Sunday, January 3, 2010, 3:10 PM
Eagles QB Donovan McNabb sits on the bench late in fourth quarter and watches his team's chance for a bye week slip away. ( Ron Cortes / Staff Photographer )

With the Cowboys' win over the Eagles and the Packers' win over the Cardinals, the NFC playoff picture is all set:

The New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings own the top two seeds. They'll get byes in the first round and host games in the divisional round. The Saints get the lower-seeded winner from wild-card weekend, and the Vikings get the other team.

Wild-card matchups for next weekend:

No. 3 Dallas vs. No. 6 Philadelphia (Saturday, 8 p.m. on NBC)

No. 4 Arizona vs. No. 5 Green Bay (Sunday, 4:40 p.m. on FOX)

If the Eagles can beat the Cowboys, they will travel to New Orleans to take on the Saints in the divisional round.

Under no circumstances can the Eagles host a playoff game. They've played their last football at the Linc this season.

Nice to know that the Pukes don't have a chance for the #2 seed. Maybe they won't play as hard, or take the edge off a little. GO Birds!!!!!!!!!

Take the edge off a game where they can win the division and host a playoff game a year after we blew them out by about 30 points? Not bloody likely.

The NFL should adopt the rule MLB uses - the wild card can't play their own division in the first round (unless both wild cards are from the same division). I don't know how often it happens but I hate these rematches in the playoffs off a week 16 or 17 game.

A garbage effort by the offense, McNabb in particular. I love 5, but he was absolutely horrible today- all he had to do was make that pass to a wide open Jackson and it's 7-7; if he handles the snap in the red zone, they score at least 3, probably 7 more. I would love to see somebody defend the level of play by #5 today in a game in which so much was riding on the line. The receivers stunk it up in the 2nd half and of course there was no running game to speak of. The wasted timeout on the punt, combined with allowing 15 seconds to run off the clock in the last minute of the half before calling a timeout once again exposed clockl management issues. Here's to ya, McNabb- greatest regular season, nonmeaningful game QB in the history of the NFL. A 12-4 team with a win goes to the #6 seed...I bet that's a first.

Dallas hasn't won a playoff game since Monica's dress got stained. I really think Dallas has no shot to go 3-0 against the Eagles. New Orleans isn't scary anymore, and Minnesota isn't either. Sure it'll be difficult, but five- and six-seeds have had great playoff success in recent seasons...

Eagles have one last chance to prove their 11-5 record wasn't a fraud. Birds 20-17 next week. Book it.

Classic McNabb returns: the back breaking fumble, the passes sailing over open WRs heads, behind them, at the ground, and they say, this guy is Hall of Fame caliber, they gotta chuck that pipe!

This team lacked heart, play calling and time out management : AGAIN. The coaching was horrid. The players were even worse. I could not give anyone a start and am glad I do not pay, and frankly no one would want to pay their salaries today. Why would anyone think that they will be any better next week. The Boys are peaking and the Eagles look lost. If the Eagles win, the Second Coming will have arrived. The dread is back. Is it Spring Training yet?

That was the worst. Like a carbon copy of last year's final season game in reverse. Eagles showed nothing. Like it was a preseason game. The only hope I have for next week is that Andy Reid is playing poker and didn't want to show his full hand.

I waatched the game without announcer voiceover. I have never seen such player apathy in a football game, be it exhibition or playoff...No explanation by Reid will suffice.

Where was Weaver??!!! Forget Bwest.....he's not an asset. Pound Weaver and establish some sort of run game.....this one-dimensioanl BS either stops or we're toast.....plain and simple. I just don't understand our coaches...

What a putrid effort from McNabb and the Coaches. The defense stunk too. Where was the pressure? 24-0 was what they deserved. Good luck beating the Pokes next week.

Eagles will lose next week. When will we ever learn. Andy Reid got an extension to lead the team to this result.
