What they're saying about the Eagles

Here's a roundup of what the national media are saying about the Eagles:

BoDog.com released some Eagles-related odds yesterday, such as: Will Andy Reid be the coach of the Eagles in Week 1 of the 2012 season? YES is even, and NO is -140. In other words, the odds say Reid is more likely to be gone.

They ask the same question for DeSean Jackson. YES is -200, and NO is +150.

SI.com's Peter King discusses how fourth quarter failures have doomed the Birds:

Before we get to the teams still playing for something, I bring you the most disappointing team of recent years, the 2011 Philadelphia Eagles. In the span of seven days at home, the Eagles blew their season by doing what they've done all year: disappear down the stretch. The 3-6 Eagles have been to fourth quarters what John Lackey is to baseball free agency.

SI.com's Don Banks says Andy Reid's team is at the top of the list among this season's disappointments:

Philadelphia's high-profile failures this season have played out amid the backdrop of the team's unprecedented acquisition spree in the summer. But for all the talent on hand, the Eagles have instead become masters of nothing but crisis management. From Juan Castillo's struggles as a first-time defensive coordinator, to Vick's multifaceted health issues, to cornerback Asante Samuel's hurt feelings regarding trade rumors, to Jackson's petulant and unprofessional approach to his contract demands, the Eagles have careened from one firestorm to the next.

It has all been enough to come to the easy conclusion that Andy Reid's 13th and perhaps final season of coaching in Philadelphia has been his unluckiest and most unrewarding one of all. Reid's Eagles teams averaged 10.7 wins per season and made nine playoff trips in his first 12 years on the job, but this year's embarrassment stands alone as an example of how far and how fast a franchise can sink.

Banks has the Eagles 24th in his weekly power rankings:

DeSean Jackson is an electrifying and game-breaking talent when he wants to be. But in all honesty, I wouldn't want him on my team (you know, if I had one). I haven't really liked his act ever since I saw him showboat away that touchdown catch against Dallas on a Monday night during his rookie year, tossing the ball to the turf for look-at-me effect before he crossed the goal line. He doesn't get it, and I doubt he ever will.

ESPN.com has the Eagles 22nd in its power rankings:

The Dream Team has become Team Turmoil. A season of such promise is now over.

Peter Keating of ESPN.com says Michel Vick has been one of the worst deep throwers in the NFL this season:

Also notable is Michael Vick, who is bombing away even more frequently than he did last year but has lost his magic touch to DeSean Jackson. Overall, he is killing the Eagles on long pass attempts, where he is just 9-of-34 for 10.1 yards per attempt, no touchdowns and two interceptions.

Brian Billick of FoxSports.com has the Eagles 20th:

There is no better coach than Andy Reid, but his postgame press conference message has to be wearing thin in Philly. The more I watch the Eagles, the more I think Nnamdi Asomugha was overhyped and overvalued in the free-agency market.

Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com has the Eagles 21st:

At 3-6, their season is in serious jeopardy heading to New York. A loss to the Giants will just about do it for them.

Elliot Harrison of NFL.com has the Eagles 19th:

What now? Jeremy Maclin is banged up, DeSean Jackson is not with the program, Michael Vick looked terrible and has damaged ribs. At 3-6, Philadelphia will have to run the table to even sniff the playoffs. What a crazy product the NFL is these days. Two weeks ago, the Eagles would beat up the 1989 49ers. Now they're losing to John Skelton and the Cardinals. To quote Yoda, unbelievable this is.

Pro Football Talk has the Eagles 24th.

Michael Silver of Yahoo Sports ranks the Eagles at No. 19:

After DeSean Jackson vowed to improve his attitude in a meeting with teammates Monday, was anyone tempted to yell, "Dude, we're 3-6 … now you actually can go into the tank, and we won't care"?

Patrick Dorsey of ESPN.com describes how Eagles fans have found new ways to vent in 2011.
