Here's this week's roundup of what the national media are saying about the Eagles:
Unlike many other teams, the Eagles are willing to reach out to executives who have experienced failure with other teams, writes Dan Pompei of the National Football Post:
Why are the Eagles going where few teams have gone? "You have talented guys, they fill a role,” general manager Howie Roseman told me. “It’s a worthy thing to do for me, because Tom is someone who has had the job before and I can bounce things off of We try to get the best people around, get as many smart opinions as possible, and then make decisions."
Speaking to Doug Farrar of Yahoo Sports, Greg Cosell of NFL Films had high praise for Eagles second-round pick Mychal Kendricks:
"I thought he was the best 4-3 linebacker, other than Luke Kuechly, in this draft. The thing that makes him a great pick is that he blitzed a lot, and he did it from the outside, and I thought he was an excellent blitzer. This kid is really a dynamic mover -- I can remember watching film and seeing him run down LaMichael James. He really fits, and he's going to start unless he plays himself out of it, which I don't think will happen. He fits their new desire to be a little more versatile, defensively, because I think they will use him as a blitzer."
In an ESPN.com column, Andrew Brandt advises against Jason Babin running with the bulls while he's still playing:
I think it's great. In fact, it's something I want to do as well and will go with him, after he's done playing football. In the midst of a productive career and in the second year of a hefty free-agent contract with the Eagles, this is not the best time to be chased by an angry male bovine.
I highly doubt the Eagles will provide written consent, and we know this activity involves a significant risk of personal injury. Therefore, to protect the remaining $22 million on his contract, I think Babin should find something else to do in July. And, from recent reports, he has.
Matt Williamson of ESPN.com looks into his crystal ball and projects the top wide receivers in the year 2015. Jeremy Maclin makes his list at No. 9:
After dealing with some very difficult circumstances last season, I am predicting a big year from Maclin in 2012. He is a great fit in Philadelphia's offense with his big-play ability and overall explosiveness. Maclin turned 24 years old a few weeks ago, so those physical qualities should still be there in 2015.
Pompei ranks his best QB-RB-WR combos. The Eagles come in at No. 4:
This is the fastest, most elusive trio group and these triplets are particularly effective between the 20s. It starts with Michael Vick, who forces defenses to compromise by making sure he doesn’t take off running. LeSean McCoy may be the best running back in space in the NFL. And DeSean Jackson has exceptional quickness and cutting ability.
In an interview with Jim Rome, Andy Reid talked about the "Fire Andy" chants from last season:
"I didn’t hear it at the moment but I was well aware of it afterwards, and I could understand it," Reid said. "We were stinking the place up, and we were not doing a good job, so I take full responsibility for that. That’s the way it is. I’m lucky to have an owner who believes in me and trusts in me and allowed me to stay here another year and get this thing rolling and have another opportunity at it."
Terrell Owens has ended his relationship with Drew Rosenhaus:
"I am making changes in my life so I can continue my career as a professional football player. I have hired Jordan Woy as my new agent. It was important for me to hire someone who believes in my ability to help an NFL team and believes in me as a person."
