What I saw: Eagles vs. Bears

Here's what I saw during the Eagles' 30-24 loss to the Bears Monday night:

OFFENSE

* The Eagles had two first-half turnovers. Michael Vick was intercepted in the red zone in the second quarter. And DeSean Jackson fumbled a punt at the end of the first half. The Bears scored 10 points off the two giveaways.

* Vick finished 21-for-38 for 213 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. His average of 5.6 yards per attempt was the lowest of the past two seasons.

* Eagles wide receivers combined for eight catches for 99 yards. Jackson had just two catches on eight targets for 16 yards.

* LeSean McCoy had 16 carries for 71 yards and scored for the eighth straight game.

* The Eagles started the second half with a 15-play, 80-yard drive that took 6:42 off the clock and ended with a Ronnie Brown 4-yard touchdown run. Vick completed a pretty 21-yard pass to Brent Celek, and Jason Avant had a nice 12-yard grab on third down. McCoy converted a 4th-and-1 to keep the drive alive.

* The Eagles were outscored 10-0 in the fourth quarter.

* The Eagles tried a fake punt in the fourth, facing a 4th-and-6 at the Bears' 42. Chas Henry had Colt Anderson wide open, but threw short. I don't mind the call, but the throw was terrible.

* Julius Peppers had a second-quarter sack on third down. He was unblocked on the play and brought Vick down. Alex Henery ended up barely hitting on a 47-yard field goal attempt on the drive.

* Celek had nine targets, tied with Maclin for a team-high. He ended up with seven catches for 60 yards.

* It's not often a linebacker catches up with Vick, but Lance Briggs did just that, bringing him down after a 5-yard gain in the second. Vick finished with 34 yards rushing on five carries.

* Maclin had a 31-yard catch on 3rd-and-9 in the second quarter. It was the Eagles' only pass play of more than 12 yards in the first half.

DEFENSE

* Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie had a day to forget (and that's putting it mildly). He delivered a horrible tackling attempt after giving up a third-down completion to Earl Bennett in the first. After the game, he said he thought he had knocked the ball out and the play was over. Later, Rodgers-Cromartie missed a tackle on a 26-yard completion to Bennett. He got beat by Bennett again on a 28-yard gain in the fourth. And finally, he got beat by Roy Williams on a 14-yard gain on third down in the fourth. I guess that Kevin Kolb-Rodgers-Cromartie trade isn't really working out for either team, huh?

* The story of the game was the lack of pressure on Jay Cutler. Going in, it looked like the Eagles would have a huge advantage with their defensive line going up against the Bears' offensive line, but the Birds failed to notch a sack and gave Cutler all day. He finished 18-for-31 for 208 yards and two touchdowns. Cutler had been sacked 21 times through seven games, and this was only the second time in 41 starts with the Bears that he wasn't sacked. Cutler had been sacked at least once in 31 straight games.

* Bennett killed the Eagles with five catches for 95 yards. He beat Asante Samuel in the corner of the end zone for a 5-yard score in the fourth quarter, giving the Bears a 27-24 lead. Last year, Bennett had four catches for 56 yards and two touchdowns against the Eagles.

* Trent Cole stripped Forte in the third quarter, and Mike Patterson recovered. The officials initially ruled that Forte was down, but then overturned it after an Andy Reid challenge. The Eagles scored a touchdown two plays later.

* Brian Rolle stripped Forte at the end of the first half, recovered and took it to the end zone for a touchdown that tied the game at 10.

* Jason Babin had a costly penalty on third down at the end of the first half, hitting Cutler after he let go of the ball. Babin argued that he was pushed (and later said he was "launched"), but the officials weren't buying it. The Bears got a first down and ended up scoring the touchdown.

* The issues with the run game are still very real. Granted, Forte has been playing well all season, but he had 133 yards on 24 carries, averaging 5.5 yards per rush.

* Nate Allen got injured in the first quarter, and rookie Jaiquawn Jarrett saw his first defensive snaps of the season.

* The Bears went 79 yards on 12 plays to start the game, scoring on a Cutler 5-yard touchdown to Matt Spaeth. Forte had 52 yards on six carries on the drive.

* The Bears converted their first four third-down opportunities and were 7-for-13 overall. They were 3-for-4 in the red zone.

* The Bears ran 21 plays in the first quarter; the Eagles ran 8.

* Brandon Graham was a regular part of the Eagles' rotation at left defensive ends.
