What I missed: Plax, Asomugha and Andy

It's been awhile, but I'm back after a long wedding/honeymoon break. Thanks for all the kind Tweets, comments, etc. before I left.
So what'd I miss? Here's the rundown:
* I'll admit I was pretty stunned to see just how much was written about Plaxico Burress as a potential option for the Eagles while I was gone. I offered my take on whether he'd be a fit before I left. In short, I don't really see it. Jeremy Maclin and Michael Vick were very good in the red zone last season, and Brent Celek and Jason Avant have shown the ability to get open down there in the past as well.
Could the Eagles benefit from having a bigger receiver? Probably. But I think they like Riley Cooper, and we have no idea what kind of player Burress is going to be at this point in his career.
As for the Vick comparisons, I think it's a bit of a reach to think that just because the Eagles took a shot on him, they will now go after every player who is released from jail and is looking for a second chance.
Could it happen? I guess. Andy Reid likes having an unlimited supply of toys on offense, and the Eagles have certainly shown they're willing to take risks. But I'm not counting on it.
* Sources tell Clark Judge of CBSSports.com that there is an "indifference" among the Eagles' brass about bringing in cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha whenever free agency begins:
But don't expect the Eagles to join the charge. I don't. And neither do others who are close to the organization.
They tell me there is an indifference toward Asomughha, mostly because he will cost a fortune but partly because he's a press cornerback who plays only the right-cornerback position. I know, I know, the Eagles need another cornerback like L.A. needs Sig-Alerts, and they could especially use one at the right-cornerback spot. But I've heard too many people say the Eagles aren't all that jacked up about Asomugha not to pay attention.
Tough to know what to make of this one. On one hand, a press cornerback who can play on the right side is exactly what the Eagles need. But my take on Asomugha has been the same for months now. Everything is set up for the market to be huge, and every team in the NFL would instantly improve by adding him to their defense.
When the bidding begins, it will likely come down to just how much the Eagles (and other teams) are willing to spend. In other words, I'd be surprised if they don't look into adding Asomugha, but where he eventually ends up is anyone's guess.
* Pro Football Weekly ranked all 32 NFL head coaches, and Andy Reid came in fourth, behind Bill Belichick, Mike Tomlin and Mike McCarthy. Reid was ranked ahead of three coaches who have won Super Bowls: Sean Payton, Tom Coughlin and Mike Shanahan.
* Adam Schein of FoxSports.com ranked every NFL franchise, based on the following factors: Owner, front office, head coach, coaching staff, QB and "intangibles," -- a combo of fan support, facilities, stadium and PR.
The Eagles came in at No. 5:
Andy Reid, Joe Banner, Howie Roseman and Jeffrey Lurie are excellent and united. Reid scored a coup when he hired Howard Mudd to coach the offensive line and Jim Washburn to coach the defensive line. The Eagles' public relations staff just gets it when it comes to the media, fans and players.

- Every time a baseball pitcher walks to the mound to start a game, his goal is to pitch a perfect game. There are a bunch of hall of fame pitchers who never achieved that "stated goal". Think what you want about Reid, but don't forget all the past Eagles coaches who pale in comparison, and don't kid yourself into thinking the next coach they get will be better. — Section 730
- Sheil, I like you and your stuff, but did you even read the FoxSports piece where they ranked all of the teams?? It is from May 2010!!! It is over a year old. The quote you used said the Eagles ranking was probably low based on the conservative grade for kolb....YES KOLB...NOT VICK. Wasn't that a clue for you that it was from last year?? - Contrary to popular belief I don't think the Eagles made a huge mistake in letting Sheldon Brown go. Sure, he was a steady, reliable corner. But he got burned a lot too (think Plaxico, for one)...and I didn't see him making any Pro Bowls last year with the Browns. The only mistake they made was in not making sure that they had someone at least equally as good to replace him. I expect them to correct that situation once they can....one way or the other.— SteveS11

- '07 Burress maybe. Now he's old and a year or so from being in football shape. Might be good for a couple of RZ TDs. He'll be nothing more than the 4th WR/role player on this team, not a difference maker.

- Despite the fact that Namdi is going to cost a ton, the Eagles are ridiculously under the cap every year. have they went out and gotten guys before that didn't work out? sure. But right now you have the offense to take you very deep into the playoffs. You had that in 2004, they went out and got Jevon Kearse to chase QB's and J Trotter to stop the run and of course they brought in T.O.
You don't need anyone on offense, you owe it to the fans to sign Namdi even if he's only a one year wonder like Kearse. If he's all about winning like he says he will play here for less money and have the best shot at a Super Bowl ala Cliff Lee.
You can't keep drafting 4th rounders or signing no-risk guys off injuries to plug in there at right corner. I'm tired of hearing Andy say "we're very confident with (dude who sucks) playing opposite Asante". remember when we had Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent? Remember when we had Lito and Sheldon? Get Asante a buddy PLEASE! Where are they going to throw the ball with both these guys on the field? Teams would be forced to go deep or throw to the tight end non-running every play.— mundiff - They paid out there arse for a soft corner/playmaker who only plays the left side, why wouldn' they pay for a press guy who only plays the right side?
