'We want Vick' chants start already

POSTED: Thursday, August 27, 2009, 9:41 PM

Well, that didn't take long.

Apparently some Eagles fans saw enough on five plays from Michael Vick to call for him to replace Donovan McNabb in the third quarter.

The "We want Vick" chants broke out at the Linc and could be heard on the TV broadcast after McNabb threw an interception.

Those of you at the Linc could give a better idea of just how loud they were and how many people were participating.

As always, I assume it was a vocal minority, but again, you could hear the chants on TV. The national media should have a field day with this one.

We knew this would come at some point, but I figured it might wait until at least the regular season started. What happens when Vick is eligible to play and McNabb has a bad game, or a bad quarter, or a bad play?

Dumbest fans in America. This is why Philly doesn't deserve to win a Super Bowl...and never will.

McNabb better get ready to hear we want Vick. He is horrible in the red zone.

We want a guy who hasnt played in 1 months and wasn't even that good at qb before he went to jail...even though we already have a HOF qb in his prime. That makes sense.

On the fumble returned for a TD, most of the people around me were screaming "It's incomplete! Challenge Andy! You're an idiot!". Dumbest fans in America.

sono, are you saying Vick is the better qb? Please explain that to us? Is this based on his 53% completion percentage or the fact that he was almost booed out of Atlanta before the dogfighting stuff with a lot of fans and pundits calling for Matt Schaub to take over the team after the '06 season? Or was it him completing a couple of passes tonight under no pressure because the Jags stayed in their lanes whenever he was in so he couldn't run just like everyone figured out when the Birds shut him down in '05.

Pre-season. Let's not lose focus. Sept 13 is coming and there's still plenty of work to do. If the O-line gets healthy we'll be okay

"News flash - on other nfl teams they start the best players. If vick is better...." This can't be a serious comment. News flash: There isn't any "if" here. Vick is not and has never been a better QB than McNabb. This is the end of the conversation. I hope to God you didn't waste any money on tickets this year as you obviously know as much about the NFL as you do about quantam mechanics.

The Eagles and their fans are pathetic, and tonight's display is just another clear indication of that. Its almost a shame.

fans aren't dumb, just very moody. any fan in any stadium yells about challenging calls that shouldn't be challenged. every team get's boos when they throw interceptions. people just like to stereotype fans in philly. people are going to chant for vick. if vick were to come in and throw a pick they would be chanting for mcnabb. if vick wasnt' on the eagles they would be chanting for aj or kolb. get over it

Was at the game, heard it quite loudly. Thought it was more a way to show frustration at Donovan's passing, an eagerness to see more of what Vick can do and overall a bit of joking.

On the plus side, Kolb looked good at the end of the game and Maclin got more involved.

to all the haters, if you hate the eagles and their fans, stay off the fan boards. we don't need to hear your pessimism, we have plenty of that on our own, it's just more intelligent than the moronic drivel that spews out of you keyboard

Thanks again Sheil for hosting the chat…besides the football, hopefully the Eagles can keep the promises & keep going forward w/ what they’ve got going on…

philly10, McNabb wanted to bring Vick in because McNabb's a class act and a gentleman who knows he's also 100x the qb that Vick will ever be so there's nothing for him to actually worry about.

Well, it wasn't a fumble because it was behind the LOS, it was a fumble because it was a lateral as opposed to a forward pass. Forward passes can be thrown behind the LOS - think shovel pass.

Where's the article about the racist banner in the parking lot people were signing that said, "The Black Community Supports Michael Vick. Black Man Play Ball." ???? If white people did that to support a white athlete we'de be front page news / top story on the TV news as being racists.

It's the second half of a preseason game, of course they wanted to see Vick play...he's a novelty and it was a meaningless preseason game. In college basketball games, the home fans often chant for walk-ons to get into the game at the end of blowouts too but that doesn't mean they want them to replace the starting players.

Honestly, I love Philadelphia. I live in New York City and have for the last 15 years but I have loved and supported every single philly team since I move. This is not uncommon as many bars I have been to have awesome philly fans in it whenever there is a philly game on. I rarely miss a phillies game and never miss an eagles game. I read philly.com every day and read all your quotes. I have to say that you guys are the most passionate and whole hearted fans, But at the same time you have the shortest memories and the least loyalty. Brad lidge goes 41 for 41 last year and wins us a world series. This year he goes through tough times and you guys curse and rip him apart. Mcnabb brings us 4 championships and 1 superbowl appearance + a championship appearance last year when no one expected anything...and yet you still hat him and you still hate lidge. It is disgusting. Every day i sit in a bar and defend my teams. and every morning i go to work and read your poison. you wonder why espn makes fun of you fans for being disruptive and booing santa etc...I think they need to call you out on loyalty. loyalty to stick with who brought you happiness the last year in the world series and loyalty with who brought you playoffs and excitement the last ten years as quarterback. Unfortunately, i'm beginning to think philly has no loyalty, patience and joy for what we have received over the last few years. And I'm sad. I defend you fans and will continue to up here in New York against rabid and ignorant Giant fans and disheartened mets fans. But you make it harder and harder for me to respect you when you talk so much trash and spur so much poison against people that have brought us so much joy over the last few years. I am not only talking to the fans but also to you the media.

I know that many of you will respond(or not out of pride) to this response but you have to know that there are millions of philly fans outside of philly that love this great city and love the every team and love the passion of all you fans. I am one of them and every time I go to Citi field and watch us destroy the minor league mets I make sure that I am heard. And I cheer for them if they are hitting or not...because at the end of the day I know that this team is special...so special that they made broad street a carnival last year for an entire week. they have a chance to do it again and yes lights out(on) lidge is not helping the cause and yes cholly is sticking by him but cholly has no choice because there is no other choice. Put chan ho in there and the first save he blows you will all rip him. have some faith that this year is our year again.....because i know there was not one person that believed last year was ours and look what happened....I have faith in lidge that he will turn it around and if he doesnt then cholly will put someone else in there. Stop hating on the best thing that happened to us and appreciate what we have...a first place team with the potential to win it all two years in a row. I do and I will battle anyone in New York that thinks differently...

Cheering and chanting for a guy who swings dogs heads into concrete walls when he's not drowning or electrocuting them. It's not hard to root against the happiness of the neanderthals I cheered with for 50 years. Then again, most of you losers were probably not around for most of that time. Your parents sure didn't know how to raise you right.

I think it is AR's intention to have Vick replace McNabb in the next 2 years if all goes according to plan.
