WR Roy Williams on the trade block?

POSTED: Monday, October 6, 2008, 5:04 PM
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reported yesterday that some teams are saying that the Lions are shopping wide receiver Roy Williams.

According to Schefter, back in April, the Lions were requesting two first-round draft picks for Williams. The Lions say they'd only deal Williams if an offer that was too good to be true was made.

In yesterday's loss to the Bears, Williams expressed his frustration on the sidelines, according to the Detroit Free Press, and fans chanted for the team to trade him. However, Williams told the paper he wants to be a Lion:

"Let me clarify this for everybody," he said. "If I didn't want to be here, I wouldn't go in. I've got the money to sit down on the sideline, OK? So if I didn't want to be here, I wouldn't play.

"When the ball's thrown my way, I'm trying to get to the end zone. That's my job. So when you see me catch a ball, if I don't give you the first-down sign, I don't want to be here."

The Cowboys and Eagles always seems to come up when a wide receiver is mentioned in trade talks. Here's what Jerry Jones told SI.com's Peter King:

"We have no plans to trade for a receiver before the trading deadline.'' No plans? So it's not going to happen? "No,'' he said. "No trade for a receiver.''

Williams has 15 catches for 209 yards in four games this season. Last year he caught 63 balls for 836 yards and five touchdowns. His best season came in 2006 when Williams had 82 catches for 1,310 yards and seven scores. Williams is 26 years old.

The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 4 p.m.

Monday night: Vikings at Saints

Monday night record: 4-1

The pick: Saints (-3)

Dear Andy Reid, Roy Williams is exactly what are team needs. Can we atleast make a respectable attempt to land this excellent wide receiver.

i agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!! jackson looks like a player. reggie brown is a disappoinment. Who knows if Curtis is going to make a contribution this year. Baskett has some potential. Lewis and Avant should not be on an NFL roster.

We can't go for this in philly!!! we might win some games, and andy loves to trade down his first round picks for nobodies. Hey, let's give them Andy and the two first round picks.

Honestly, i think mcnabb is unmotivated. you draft kolb and give him ZERO weapons. if we resigned d-mac AND gave him roy williams for reggie dropballs and 2 first round picks we wont use...he'll feel like the FO and REID want him to succeed. other than that, i think d-mac feels his time is up. thats why he wont run or do crazy things. the dallas game was his time to show his true form, after the loss and when REGGIE BROWN RETURNED TO START OVER JACKSON AND BASKETT he went into his 2006 and 2007 mode. give d-mac his weapons. we saw what he can do when he has them. REID IS GETTING TIRED AS THE WEEKS GO ON!

I feel bad for Mcnabb, Eagles need to give him a star receiver. I'm not happy of Kolb sorry fans but he prove nothing to me, I would really hate to see Mcnabb go to the vikings, Childress isn't dum he knows Mcnabb will be his qb in the future

Don't see it happening. 63 catches for 836 yds? Those are reggie brown numbers. The biggest problem I see is that mcnabb isn't putting the ball up for his guys to make plays like the first 2 games. If we go out and get williams how do we know mcnabb will trust him to make plays? We got enough guys who can run downfield while mcnabb checks it down to the backs. We need mcnabb to be a bit more aggresive and stop throwing to the backs on 3rd and 7. Throw it to someone beyond the sticks! They are open! Everyone knows they're going to throw it to Westbrook on the right side, they sit a guy in the flat to wait for him. Could they at least try the left once in a while? Or try something radically different and get it to a wideout on 3rd down!

63 catches for 836 while missing four games to injury. In Detroit. That's pretty good. Put Williams on a good team with a passing offense and a good quarterback, and he would put up much better numbers than that.

thank you philly in DC, correct argument there. if roy williams had mcnabb throwing to him? wowww he could be a beast...a giant target for mcnabb..would be awesomeee. but honestly eagles fans, how long have we been waiting for a receiver after T.O blew up and we still havent gotten one, so dont get all excited to be let down again.

Lewis and Avant are this year's version of Trash and Stinkston.

You guys are always calling for a number one receiver. Well, Detriot has two of them. Look how that has worked out for the Lions. You win games by controlling the line of scrimmage.

I stated this before--Why is it that any wide receiver who comes to are training camp can take are so called # RBROWN wide receive spot-And Glewis-- heck I wanted him gone years ago after he was scared to go in the middle-since he is only good for deep passes down the side line. I will enjoy having RWILLIAMS-A top receiver makes a difference-Just as long as McNabb can throw the ball to Williams’s chest or his face and not to the ground all the time. It's seem that we try to get these receivers from other teams and always fail- Maybe we have the wrong negotiator--Please don’t try to trade player for player we don’t have to many good one’s-lol(but we do have first round draft picks).
