Vince Young an option to back up Vick?

One of the more intriguing names that has been mentioned as a potential backup for Michael Vick is Titans quarterback Vince Young.

Young is technically still under contract with Tennessee, but reports suggest they are going to release him and his salary.

Per ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the Eagles (along with the Dolphins) have done a lot of work evaluating Young, who has had an up and down five years with the Titans, but is only 28 years old.

Tennessee went 30-17 in the 47 games Young started, even though he put together a QB rating of just 75.7.

The Eagles need to decide which direction they want to go in, assuming they trade Kevin Kolb. My thought was they'd be more likely to go with a safer option than Young, but Young has more of an upside than many of the other possibilities.

MORE NOTES

** Kolb is still an Eagle, and according to Paul Domowitch of the Daily News, a trade is not expected to go down today. The Birds are clearly trying to get all they can for Kolb, which is a fine strategy, as long as the top cornerbacks on the market don't get signed. And that hasn't happened yet. The Eagles can't afford to hold off, have a deal with the Cardinals fall through and then be left without a right corner.

** Not sure what to make of Vick's comments about DeSean Jackson. Jackson has a base salary of $565,000 in 2011 and is looking for an extension, but it's not as if the Eagles have been telling him no way (unless they have said that behind closed doors). The Eagles' hands have been tied with the lockout and the 30 percent rule last year. Unless Jackson and Drew Rosenhaus are being completely unreasonable in their demands, my guess would be the Eagles have extending Jackson on their to-do list. If I were a betting man, I'd say he shows up at Lehigh tomorrow. I'm not sure holding out is the right way to express his displeasure, and I don't think it'd draw a very favorable reaction from Andy Reid and his teammates, who are looking to win a Super Bowl coming off a shortened offseason.

** The Packers are expected to cut 30-year-old linebacker Nick Barnett, and he listed the Eagles as one of four teams he'd like to play for in a radio interview with Adam Schein. Barnett played in just four games last season and has played in 29 games in the last three seasons because of injuries. My guess is the Eagles will go with what they have at linebacker, having drafted five in the last two years.

** Going around the NFC East, the Giants plan on releasing Rich Seubert, according to Mike Garafolo of NJ.com. Seubert is 32 and had knee surgery in the offseason. He started 62 of 64 games for the Giants in the last four seasons. Lineman Shaun O'Hara is gone too, per Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN New York. O'Hara started 97 games in seven seasons for the Giants. And Shawn Andrews is expected to be released, but his agent said he has not heard from the Giants yet.

** Meanwhile, the Cowboys are cleaning house. Per ESPN Dallas, they are cutting guard Leonard Davis, wide receiver Roy Williams and running back Marion Barber. The Cowboys might also get rid of offensive lineman Marc Colombo. Davis started 64 straight games for Dallas in the last four seasons. Barber spent six seasons there (although it feels like 16). And Williams went to Dallas for a first-, third- and sixth-round pick a few years ago. He had fewer than 40 catches and 600 yards in each of his two seasons in Dallas.

Wow Vince Young. Do we really need 2 QB's that can run around the pocket?

I'd take Tavaris Jackson over Vince Young any day of the week!

I'm on record as wanting DJax elsewhere. I've stated before that this "too light in the britches prima-dona" is going to be a cancer this year. Sorry son, but you simply are not worth #1 money. That cash is reserved for guys that have size, avg 85 rec or better, and don't dog it when they aren't the first or second option. There's close to a couple handfuls of WRs that I'd rather have than this clown.

Million dollar wheels, but a 5 cent head.

I would take Kyle Orton over Tavaris and Vince. What do you guys think?

What they should do is keep Kevin Kolb and go get Nnamdi or Joseph if available. Do we really want 2 non-tackling CB's? Also, try to get Charles in Philly. That would be a great compliment to Cole.

Thanks Wishbone. Look what happened last year when Kolb went down. Vick was there. When Vick was hurt Kolb was there. They need to have somebody who knows this system and can be reliable. Eagles fans deserve another shot at the superbowl. If our cheap front office doesn't want to go out and get accomplished players, then this organization will never get over that hump that every Eagles fan has been craving since 1960!

Andy's offense might be too complicated for Vince

Maybe Shaun O'Hara isn't healthy anymore, or his contract wishes are too big, but if he'll sign for reasonable money they'd be crazy not to consider him.

Gotta agree with Robi...Tavaris Jackson is the smartest choice for backups once Kolb is gone. He knows the offense, he's mobile, should come cheap and would be an intriguing addition once Reid works with him.

Tavaris has already signed with the Seahawks as has Leinhart. Orton is up for a trade and the Eagles are not trading for him and his salary. Young has a winning career record but is a Head Case. Hassleback and Bulger want to start. Look for the Eagles to maybe go after Billy Vogel.
