Vick's contract, Fraley's next stop
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
A few quick links to pass along:
* Interesting piece on Michael Vick's contract by Andrew Brandt of the National Football Post. Brandt, who previously worked as a consultant for the Eagles, explains that the Eagles did not pick up Vick's option last week. They were actually just paying the $1.5M roster bonus he was due. In other words, the team did not take any action. Had they taken action and released Vick, they would not have had to pay the money.
Brandt also explains that Vick and his agent originally wanted a one-year deal last year, but the Eagles negotiated for two years:
The second year was the issue. Determined to hold on to potential free agency in 2010, Vick’s side fought hard for a one-year deal until it finally relented. Vick had options, but those teams, while willing to give him a one-year deal, had other flaws.
He's got some details about Vick's 2010 salary and what will happen to the $1M guaranteed if Vick finds a new home.
*Ex-Eagles center Hank Fraley, who was let go by the Browns, will visit with the Rams today, according to the Twitter account of his agent, Ralph Cindrich. Cindrich also Tweeted that there is some interest by the Steelers, but no visit planned as of yet. Fraley told Les Bowen of the Daily News last week that he has a lot of respect for Andy Reid and the Eagles' organization, but he had no idea if the Birds would be a fit.
* Nothing to report, but interesting to note that I haven't heard a single rumor about a team being interested in Brian Westbrook. When Westbrook was released, the Vikings were thought to be a potential suitor. They brought in LaDainian Tomlinson for a visit, according to multiple reports.
More later.

- So basically nothing at all going on in Eagles land. pgcd3
I suspect the Eagles will go heavy in the draft and make the necessary trades to move up to get their guy(s). No money was spent on FAs, so the draft appears to be their target. This draft has the best talent in the last 20 years, so smart drafting could bring great results. Let's see how smartly the Birds draft! walt1
The Eagles won't sign Fraley because he and Runyan(funny how he also wasn't signed) ruffled Donovans feathers by saying he threw up in the Super Bowl. Note that anyone that crosses Donovan doesn't stay. watsonmr
eagles need to load up on draft picks, this could end up being quite the talent boom if done right. sasquatches
Yes, a lot of good defensive prospects are in this 2010 group. Hopefully, they'll be able to land a couple of starters. Not as much quality in O-line though. pigsofsunday

Sporting news is reporting Seattle is pressing hard for Kolb, and that the Eagles are asking for two 1st round picks....that sounds a little steep if you ask me, if we can get a 1st round pick for Kolb, do it. The Seahawks second 1st round pick is early teens, which would let the Birds get Thomas from Texas and use the Birds original first round pick on best DE available. Hope for a LB after that. Bleue
Wolf - doesn't look like the Eagles are willing to deal Kolb, and the market just isn't there for Vick/McNabb. As much as I want to see a move, I can see AR keeping all three. Ughhhh. dragoon6
the birds are going to trade corn on klob to seattle and then pick eric berry, the safety from tennessee!!!!!take that one to the bank wolf!! bleed green forever
Vargas will be a popular player, my guess. Leegles
Let's Go Phillies!!!! flyerdup
I heard Betty White is available.....maybe they'll sign her. Her knees will hold up better than Jackson's will Bates- Don't worry Eagles Fans! We are getting Hank Baskett! The guy who fumbled in the superbowl! Superbowl he we come! I'm just glad the Eagles will have a low payroll this year! ChrisM
- So Sheil, I’m kind of burned out on all this “legal mumbo jumbo”. I might be missing it, but essentially the Eagles could hold onto Vick right up until the start of the season w/o being obligated to pick up his option? Right? If that’s the case, the reason they haven’t picked up his option yet is because they are still undecided if he will be back this upcoming season, and they are holding out to see what they can get for him. Is that your best guess as to what is going on? Just curious…anyways, I’m a bit late to the party, but- thanks Westbrook. It was a treat watching you doing your thing for 8 years here in Philly. Nothing but the best to you bro this upcoming season. I’ll be rooting for you again this year wherever you land. (it just better be in the AFC!)
flyerdup, you are right on the money. This town is now a baseball town! Let the Eagles fans work themselves up until the draft. Then they can quite down until camp starts. I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that the Eagles this coming season and for the next few seasons are going to be much like what you've seen the past 3/4 years. It's like going to the track, you get the Racing Form, analyize what the ponies have done the past 1/2 years and bet accordingly. Same Same with the Eagles. Doubtful
