Could Vanden Bosch fit Eagles' needs?

One of the only things Eagles fans can agree on this offseason is that the Birds could use some pass-rushing help opposite defensive end Trent Cole.

The Inquirer's Bob Brookover wrote about Julius Peppers yesterday, and in an online poll, 75 percent of you said that the Eagles should pursue the Panthers' defensive end.

With players most likely needing six years of service to qualify for unrestricted free agency, the group of available players would shrink significantly in an uncapped year.

But Scout.com's Adam Caplan wonders whether the Titans' Kyle Vanden Bosch could fit the Eagles' needs. Caplan caught up with Vanden Bosch last week at the Pro Bowl to gauge his interest on potentially playing in Philadelphia.

"Well, sure, yeah. They have a good team and a good defense. I'm familiar with them," he said.

Vanden Bosch had just three sacks last season and 4.5 in 2008 after a three-year stretch in which he piled up 31.

With eight years of service time, he would become an unrestricted free agent on March 5 if the Titans do not re-sign him, something Vanden Bosch did not sound optimistic of last week.

"There’s a better chance than not this is it," Vanden Bosch told The Tennessean. "The Titans have given me no indication that they would like to re-sign me, so mentally and physically I have been preparing like I am going to free agency. I have been working out hard and maybe it is a time for a fresh start somewhere else."

Eagles offensive tackle Jason Peters had an interesting take on Vanden Bosch after lining up against him in the Pro Bowl.

"He's 100 miles an hour every play, so it's almost like I played a whole game," Peters told Les Bowen of the Daily News. "Everybody else is 50 percent, he's going 100."

Vanden Bosch would be a great fit opposite Cole. Big time motors on each guy, and without the ridiculously high price tag Peppers is carrying.

I would rather Vanden Bosch than Peppers. Peppers is not as productive as he once was and would require too much of a financial committment.

Why do people diss J Parker so much? He had 8 sacks. Furthermore, Clemons had 3 sacks and Babins had 2.5. Those three guys shared the position and combined for 13.5 sacks. So the Eagles did get a solid pass rush from the left side. The more pressing problem is that the secondary and linebackers struggled in coverage.

I used to like the eagles having a semi rotation of DLineman to keep everyone fresh..but now, they need Dlineman who can play 4 quarters and get into a rhythm. Also, a rotation means no one other than Cole was good enough to nail down full time starter status. VandenBosch would be a 3 down lineman.

I like Vanden Bosch.. he plays hard and is an all around end not just a situational player. A more reasonable pick up than Peppers. Also, I like Aaron Kampman from Green Bay. He was one of the best all around ends before his injury last year and his moving to an outside linebacker position in a 3-4. I would be very happy to get either one.. Babin and Clemons both can be let go in my opinion. Parker would be an excellent back up.

KVB is an intriguing idea, however, whoever we bring in needs to be young. We need to get impact players on the defense that can be around for a long time. We need to get one of the stud DL in the draft, preferably we go after the big daddy prize of Suh. I know we have not had much luck with drafting high DL in the past in the first round, but most of these defensive guys in the top 15 this year are can't, miss All Pro potential players. That is where we should start the defensive upgrade this off=season.

The Tonner thinks that anyone who thinks this has a chance of happening hasn't been paying attention the last 11 years or has had one too many Genny Cream Ales. The article said this cat is 31. Case closed.

How does a DE with 3 sacks end up in the Pro Bowl?

Kearse used to be a stud before he come to the Eagles. Bosch seems to be on the decline. Peppers has been known to take plays/games off and would be too expensive. Personally, I think the Eagles are better off with the guys they have. There are a couple of good prospects at DE in this draft. If they cannot get someone good in the first round then they must hope for a diamond in the rough in the later rounds. After all, Cole was found in the draft.

I'd rather trade a mid-round draft pick for Aaron Kampton with Green Bay. He's coming off a knee injury, so he will be cheaper. He doens't fit GB's defensive scheme anymore. He's younger than Vanden Bosch or Peppers.
