Updated Eagles playoff scenarios

The Eagles' 45-19 win over the Jets, combined with the Redskins' 23-10 win over the Giants kept the Birds' playoff hopes alive for another week.

Here's a look at what needs to now happen for the Eagles to win the division:

  • The Eagles need to finish the season 2-0 against the Cowboys (away) and Redskins (home).
  • The Cowboys need to finish the season 0-2 against the Eagles (home) and Giants (away).
  • The Giants need to lose to the Jets next week (technically away, but same stadium), but beat the Cowboys (home) in Week 17.

One other item of note: The Jets play the Giants at 1 p.m. next Saturday. The Eagles play the Cowboys at 4:15 p.m. That means the Birds will know by kickoff whether they still have a shot at the division or not.

I know some of you have asked about the wild card. The Eagles were mathematically eliminated from that race when the Lions beat the Raiders this evening. Both the Lions and Falcons have nine wins. The best the Eagles can do is eight.

So it's the division or nothing.

I knew Frank was stupid before but he confirms it now. The only way the Eagles get into the playoffs is if they win the division. Point blank. Every team competing as a wild card already has the tiebreaker with the Eagles on every level. Like it states with Sheil's calculations.. the only way the Eagles sneak in is if the Giants lose to the Jets. We beat the Cowboys and the Giants take out the Cowboys a week later. While its hard to fathom based on the up and down nature of the season its very doable.

If the Giants lose to the Jets (which I think will happen based on the nature of the loss they took from us this past sunday) we will be in the drivers seat in both weeks. The Giants will beat the Cowboys the following week after the lost to the Jets. The biggest gift of the season came when the Redskins beat the Giants. They practically handed the division to us if we can handle our business.

This is very doable and I think the Eagles have about a 50% chance to win the NFC east with a 8-8 record. The Packers snuck in last year and ran the table. So can we.

Look, whether you love or hate Andy Reid if you are a true Ealges fan you want both the remaining games to be wins, regardless of the playoff raffle. Cowboys and Redskins are division rivals and beating them always feels good.
    unbelieveable!
