Trotter slams McNabb

John Gonzalez wrote a column in this morning's Inquirer about comments Donovan McNabb made last week on WIP. McNabb's ex-teammate Jeremiah Trotter was a guest on The Morning Show today and ripped into McNabb, saying the Eagles quarterback has never taken the blame when the team comes up short. Trotter added that he believes McNabb wants out of Philadelphia. "I really believe it's time for Donovan to just go to another team," Trotter said. "Donovan is a great quarterback. He is in the top five. He has been for a long time, but I believe he'll play even better if he's happy. I don't think Donovan wants to be here. Donovan is not going to come out and say it, which I think people would respect him more if he came out and just told the truth. But I think he tells everybody else one thing when he does his press conference and post-game interviews and he throws little comments out there. Donovan really doesn't want to be an Eagle. I don't think he's ever been happy there." Trotter took issue with McNabb on a variety of topics, saying he hasn't come up in clutch situations. "In this league, you're gonna get put in positions where you gotta come through at specific times," Trotter said. "And I always say the great players come through in great moments, and he hasn't prove to come through in those times when the team really needs him." When asked if that's how McNabb's current teammates feel about him, Trotter answered, "Without a shadow of a doubt." In last week's interview, McNabb said the Cardinals' final scoring drive in the NFC championship reminded him of the Eagles-Rams championship game in 2002. McNabb said both teams ran the ball at the end of the game because they were "terrified" that the Eagles' offense would get the ball back. "I don't know what offense he's talking about but I don't think anybody's terrified," Trotter said. When asked specifically about the Rams championship game, Trotter pulled no punches. "Well first of all, defense was the only reason we was in the championship game. That's first thing," he said. "Second thing is we was going against the top-rated offense and they was going against the worst offense. I mean they was going against the worst defense so they should have at least 60 points on them guys." Trotter said nobody should be surprised by McNabb's comments about the defense, adding that he has never taken responsibility for playing poorly. "I don't think a lot of people are gonna be surprised by the comments, him throwing the defense under the bus," Trotter said. "A lot of people are not gonna be surprised. They understand Donovan and you know, Donovan has never really taken the blame for playing bad. ...You'll never hear Donovan say 'I played bad. I gotta do a better job.'" And finally, Trotter said McNabb probably wouldn't have made these comments back when he was on the team. "Nobody on the team is going say anything to him. He's Donovan," Trotter said. "They don't want any controversy, but I really don't think he would have said those things if myself, Hugh [Douglas] or Ike [Reese] had been on the team." Following the Eagles' loss, when McNabb made similar comments, Trotter responded, and we blogged about it here. To listen to the Trotter interview from this morning, click here.

I will agree with one of the issues bought up by Trotter, McNabb often fades in the clutch. Would I trade him right now, HELL NO!!! As far as the Cardinals game, what did he say that was so wrong? The defense gave up a majority of the points in the first half and that run at the end. Im not bashing the D because they are the primary reason we made it to that point. The D finished 3rd in the league. THe Eagles have some changes that need to be made. That's like when McNabb plays bad, everyone dogs him out but when he makes those miraculous plays, he's loved by all. He spoke the truth and now here comes the heat.

Hey owumd, when was trot inconsistant and undependable in a "big game"? When did trot throw up in a "big game"? When did trot miss 4 plays in a row in a "big game"? (like McNabb did on the final drive against the Cards) When did trot throw his team under the bus??? This MUST stop. Ten years people. Five chances to win "THE BIG GAME". STOP drinking the Kool-aid. We don't have to blame anyone. Ten years. IT'S NOT WORKING!!!

G, you're absolutely right; I would add something to what you said but I think you captured it just right.

Trotter is just auditioning for a spot on WIP like his other Ex's who never won a big game. Don't forget Trotter was on T.O.'s side during the side show in 05-this whole story line is tired & old-WIP will never forgive Mac for making their station look like a bunch of idiots the day of DMac draft in "99" when he was booed by the "clueless 30" Now the whole world knows the type of listeners this station gets.

why cant mcnabb complain about his defense being clutch? if the defense were clutch, mcnabb wins 25-24.

Mongo, Jeremiah Trotter is an African-American. How the hell is this article racist or are you going to quote McNabb about black-on-black crime. Face it....the offense has failed in 3 of the 5 championship games. 5 point loss in 2001, 29-24. 11 point loss in 2003, 14-3 and this past game. The defense played good enough to win in those games and came up with key stops. McNabb just can't keep his mouth shut. What the hell did he score on the Wonderlic?

OMIGODEAGLES, key stops????? What game were you watching? The Defense held themt 3 and outs the whole third and most of the fourth. Granted, maybe a little much to ask for another 3 and out but AZ ran em' over. I'd say if you comparing the two or the D agains McN, the D went to the locker room first.

Oh Calabrese, you who are all knowing...why are you wasting your time with something as insignifigant as pro football? You should be helping president Obama figure out ways to fix the economy.

Hey pnolan, Trotter wasn't around in the failures of 02 and 03 because he took an offer to play for the worst team in the division. When he came back in 04 and started in the Super Bowl, he was targeted and embarrased by the Patriots misdirection package involving Kevin Faulk. Re-watch the game and you'll see Trotter (the prototypical "Philly guy" getting turned in circles by the first good offense we played against in those playoffs. Two years later, when he was a worn down old man who still got the benefit of the doubt because Eagles fans like guys who "wear it all on their sleeves", Trotter was one of the guys in the middle of a defense that was abused and dominated by Deuce McAllister. Good attempt though.
