The Eagles' playoff path

POSTED: Sunday, December 28, 2008, 7:12 PM
With their 44-6 win today over the Cowboys, the Eagles earned the No. 6 seed in the NFC playoffs. So what does that mean?

A date in Minnesota against Brad Childress, Adrian Peterson and the Vikings next weekend in the wild-card round. The folks from The Inquirer and Daily News will have details on the time and day (either Saturday or Sunday) when they become available.

Here's the rest of the NFC playoff seeds:

1. Giants (first-round bye)
2. Panthers (first-round bye)
3. Vikings (host the Eagles)
4. Cardinals (host the Falcons)
5. Falcons
6. Eagles

That means the other NFC matchup next weekend is Atlanta at the Cardinals.

Now, I realize this is jumping way ahead, but some of you in the chat were asking about it, so I wanted to clarify.

If the Eagles beat the Vikings, they will play at New York to face the top-seeded Giants in the divisional round. The Eagles are the No. 6 seed so they have no chances at hosting a playoff game at any time.

If the Eagles were to upset the Giants in the divisional round, they would play the remaining team (Atlanta, Arizona or most likely Carolina) on the road in the NFC championship.

Here's a transcript of our game chat:

Definitely a sweet win, very glad for Dawkins et al, nice to see the defense score some points. I don't think I've ever seen such an inept offensive display as the Cowgirls put on today, whether it was Romo or Williams, and the defense was nonexistant much of the game, and inept when they were there. Only TO put up some decent numbers. If you have to humiliate anyone, glad it's the Cowboys!!!!
