How Landri fits in
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
The Eagles announced Monday morning that they've agreed to terms on a one-year deal with defensive tackle Derek Landri.
Landri's had an interesting couple of years. In 2010, he was a full-time starter with the Panthers. The Eagles brought him in to camp last summer, but cut him before the regular season. After an Antonio Dixon injury, he rejoined the team in Week 5 and went on to lead the Eagles with eight tackles for loss. Landri also added two sacks and 18 quarterback hurries.
As part of the defensive tackle rotation, he played about 44 percent of the snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. But his playing time increased as the season went on. Landri played over 55 percent of the team's snaps in the final four games.
The Eagles now have Cullen Jenkins, Mike Patterson, Dixon and Landri as pieces of the defensive tackle rotation. Cedric Thornton, an undrafted free agent last year, could also be in the mix.
But I don't think this signing has much of an effect on the team's draft plans. If they view someone like Mississippi State's Fletcher Cox as a difference-maker, they could still go that route and create some competition/depth going into training camp.
Meanwhile, the Eagles have set up their roster to really take the best player available in the first round. I'll write more about this on Tuesday, but that could include defensive tackle, linebacker, wide receiver or cornerback.
The Eagles' defensive line accounted for 47 of the team's 50 sacks last season. Other than Juqua Parker (1.5 sacks) and Trevor Laws (1 sack), every lineman who played in 2011 will have a chance to earn a roster spot in 2012.
In case you missed it from earlier today, I posted on the Eagles' reported interest in Dolphins safety Yeremiah Bell.

You forgot, QB, Sheil. I really hope not. But ... borntosuffer
QB!!!! need a QB! osi is hurt boohoo
Why would we waste a pick on a QB? We have too many other positions that need to be strengthened. Getting another QB to sit on the bench will not help the team - either now or in the future. When you need a new starting QB, the best bet is to get a blue chipper like the Redskins did. The odds on picking up the next late pick Tom Brady are awfully slim... Bobphxville
7-9 in 2012, no playoffs...again. jimmymack- How is your Circus Psychic job working out for you?
You can't make a prediction like that.
You don't even have all the facts, and a draft is still ahead of us.

All smoke screens. Right, Wrong or Indifferent, Andy is going QB with first pick. Sports4Life
After Luck and RG3, there isn't a Quarterback in the Draft that can come to Philly and challenge Vick for the Starting position. Drafting a QB with hopes of finding a starter is a waste of a draft pick.
The Eagles have a soft middle, the Tackles with the exception of Jenkins are not and have not been productive in Phila since Cory Simon and none measure up to Jerome Brown. The Signing of Landri is not impressive in the least bit.
The middle of the Eagles defense because of the play of the Tackles is as busy as the Schuylkill expressway entrance at King of Prussia. The Eagles could stop old people on Market Street last year. Maybe some of you forgot the picture of Steven Jackson running through the Eagles as easy as Fred Jackson from the Bills.
The Eagles need a hell raising Defensive Tackle to command double teams and who can collapse the pocket and deflect the run.
Dexter- I like TE Coby Fleener from Stanford at #15. Celek had two offseason surgeries. If he's 100%, then the Eagles have a nice TE tandem. Dual TE's seems to be the new flavor in the NFL. He's also 6'6 and runs a 4.45, so there's your Plaxico-like redzone target (without the drama). Clay Harbor was scouted out of college as a top fullback prospect. Plug him there. No need to bring Owen Schmidt back. His contract is up. EmanuelP
- Yea, that is pretty impressive and not a bad thought given Celek's injuries. Do any mocks have him as a first round grade? I like your idea with Harbor as well.
Still need a great outside linebacker. farley
When MV is you're QB it matters not what you do to the rest of the team!! a circus novelty act like Vick will win NOTHING!!! so YES!!! drafting a QB with the FIRST PICK IS A MUST!!! shhhhesh! osi is hurt boohoo

Thank God it was Landri and not Laws! I guess it was really tough on Arrogant Andy to let go of yet another 2nd round Bust! younged
After the top 2, QB is an extremely weak position intis year's draft. And that's includes Tannehill. I'm not buying that guy at all. Don't waste a pick on a QB. MrMiles1
I still think Keuchly would be a great pick, if they can get him. Play him outside. p-diddy
I don't know what to make of the naysayers. To me it looks like they've got enough talent and experience to contend for a SB. p-diddy
