T.J. hasn't heard from Bengals

Wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh said he hasn't yet heard from the Bengals about a contract, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. “I really don’t know. I can’t speak for them but I haven’t heard from them which would lead me to assume that I’m out of there,” Houshmandzadeh said. Earlier today, we recapped Houshmandzadeh's comments from his interview on ESPN 950 with Mike Missanelli. Houshmandzadeh indicated that Philadelphia might be a good fit for him. As we pointed out in the earlier post, Houshmandzadeh's comments should be taken with a grain of salt. He's making the rounds as a pending free agent and even went on a Chicago radio station yesterday and spoke highly of Rex Grossman. The Daily News' Les Bowen drove this point home in an earlier post today on Eagletarian. As for the Bengals, there is still a chance they could franchise Houshmandzadeh for $9.88 million, but according to The Enquirer, Marvin Lewis indicated last week that he'd rather not franchise anyone. NFL Network's Adam Schefter previously reported the same thing. Here's the timeline you should be aware of. Teams have from now until Feb. 19 to designate players with the franchise tag. In fact, the Patriots did just that earlier today with quarterback Matt Cassel. Meanwhile, the free-agent signing period begins Feb. 27. In yesterday's interview, Houshmandzadeh said the Eagles know how to get in touch with him and his agent, although by rules they are not allowed to contact him just yet. In The Enquirer article, Houshmandzadeh indicated he may have some destinations already in mind. "You can’t talk to teams until the 27th, but I have some idea who might be interested. You have to take a look at a team and its situation and get a feel for things,” Houshmandzadeh said
