Statements from Lurie and Reid
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
I just posted on Brian Dawkins' departure so be sure to check out that entry, which includes a YouTube highlight video of No. 20.
But this statement from the Eagles just popped in my inbox. Here are statements from Jeffrey Lurie and Andy Reid on Dawkins' departure.
From Lurie:
“Brian Dawkins has been one of the pillars of this franchise for 13 years. He helped lead us to five NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl. Brian embodies everything you look for in a professional athlete and human being. I have been fortunate to witness his impeccable character, his passion for the game of football and his commitment to being the best player he could be. I look forward to continuing a close relationship with him once his playing days are over. His legacy as an Eagle will last forever and will ultimately land him in Canton as a Hall of Famer.”
From Reid:
“Brian is one of the best players in franchise history and one of the most popular players to ever play in the city of Philadelphia. The Eagles organization, as well as the entire fan base, will miss him not only as a player but as a tremendous person. This is the toughest part of my job, no question. He gave this city 13 years of emotional, energetic football. We wish Brian and his family nothing but the best as he continues his career in Denver.”
As difficult as it might be, please try to refrain from using obscenities with your comments.
I wish Brian the best. I agree with the Eagles decision and Brain's also. It is a business and Andy has always been very good at this part. Thank You Brian Dawkins is has been a pleaseure watching you for 13 years cogy
stop the nonsense. Dawkins made a choice. He chose money over loyalty to a team and a city. It's not all on the Eagles. Please. It's just a microcosm of what's wrong with this country right now....money rules. We're learning the hard way. retzlaff
blah blah blah. They can make as many statements as they like. All i hear is "we're still wealthy, keep spending your money on us, we dont care what you think". yet another corporate scam, only this one is being perpetuated in 31 other NFL cities. tch43
I agree with kpanikkar. Lurie IS the best owner this team has ever had. If Dawkins was signed for $9 mil in guaranteed money, I understand the Eagles' not matching that amount. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Eagles approach Dawkins about a coaching role after his career his over. Quentin Demps won't be Dawkins, but he is a promising young player. I think Rex Ryan got a real bargain in Lito Shepphard. Lito's their best corner now. p-diddy
A lot of these younger safties can't play dead,I'd take an old B.Dawk over them any day.He can still hit and cause strips. The birds just so happen to play DEN this year.Lurie-Reid=Dumb&Dummer. P.H.I
Some of the posters here are just stoopid. Do you really think the Eagles should have matched $9 mil in guaranteed money for Dawkins? Yeah, he's a Hall of Famer. But he's also 35 and is not the cover guy he was. The Eagles must field the best team they can, and handing out huge contracts to 35 year old players is not a recipe for success. And the people whining about the Eagles not signing Runyan don't know what they're talking about. A microfracture in the knee is a serious injury and we're talking about a 300+ pound man who is also 35 years old. You can't afford to get sentimental in the NFL, unless you want to lose. p-diddy
Lurie : The less he spends on players, the more he keeps. Banner : after hearing him talk he should be selling coffee and bagels from a push cart. Reid : "Pass me another jelly donut." If they don't go after RB Ward fom the Giants or a top notch wide receiver ... let's all get ready for another mediocre draft ! Gringo4
You DO NOT issue "statements" about Dawkins you cowards. You get up in front of the media and you honor him face-to-face with the camera and quests. Reid and Lurie are pathetic and spineless. Learn some class! Dish- Dawkins choose money b/c the Eagles money wasn't reasonable. He only got $7.5 M guaranteed. He may never see 1 cent more. Obviously the Eagles didn't come close to offering $7.5 M guaranteed or Dawk would still be here. Dawk knows he's not playing more than two years. As I said the effing dumb Eagles were willing to pay that worthless Loser J Smith $5 M last year. Its inexplicable why they could not guarantee Dawk $7.5, except they're STUPID AND CHEAP. The only championship Lurie and Banner want to win is the title of the most profitable and valuable team. As long as we stooge Eagle fans keep going to games, buying paraphernalia, etc... Lurie, Banner and Reid just laugh behind our backs and count the money.
I am done routing for the Eagles until Reid is gone! I can care less what they do now. This organization doesnt care at all about winning. Brauny
Dawk was honored with every paycheck he CASHED. Just like the ones he will be cashing with the Broncos owners signature. Thank you for all you did for the Iggles. Like all the Lombardi trophies. You folks have got to face reality. Over the hill and just got way overpaid. Reggie92
FIRE REID. CaptainCrunch
This is the worst ownership and management in Philadelphia sports history. After all of these years, these guys just don't get it. 48 million under the cap and no room for Dawkins?? Wake me up when its over, what a nightmare. blchops08
MB 2009- you're not worth dignifying witha response. I went to every home game last year. Dawkins can't cover the field anymore. Criticize the Eagles all you want but when was the last time they made a bad move letting go of a 30 something player? Troy Vincent? Bobby Taylor? Trotter? Duce Staley? KMG
KMG True that. You know who is next? I don't want to say but it is a now 30 something RB. I kinda hate to think about that but it is the nature of the beast. It is the way the NFL works. You do not get rewarded for past performance. Just ask D Brooks. Reggie92
