Statements from Lurie and Reid
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
I just posted on Brian Dawkins' departure so be sure to check out that entry, which includes a YouTube highlight video of No. 20.
But this statement from the Eagles just popped in my inbox. Here are statements from Jeffrey Lurie and Andy Reid on Dawkins' departure.
From Lurie:
“Brian Dawkins has been one of the pillars of this franchise for 13 years. He helped lead us to five NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl. Brian embodies everything you look for in a professional athlete and human being. I have been fortunate to witness his impeccable character, his passion for the game of football and his commitment to being the best player he could be. I look forward to continuing a close relationship with him once his playing days are over. His legacy as an Eagle will last forever and will ultimately land him in Canton as a Hall of Famer.”
From Reid:
“Brian is one of the best players in franchise history and one of the most popular players to ever play in the city of Philadelphia. The Eagles organization, as well as the entire fan base, will miss him not only as a player but as a tremendous person. This is the toughest part of my job, no question. He gave this city 13 years of emotional, energetic football. We wish Brian and his family nothing but the best as he continues his career in Denver.”
As difficult as it might be, please try to refrain from using obscenities with your comments.
Dawk was my favorite Eagles' player of all time...but how many more cycles of juice can his organs take? It was time to let him go...smart move by the franchise. It still hurts to say goodbye. Lehigh Philly- classless franchise-classless move---spin, spin, spin, spin---just wait until you hear Eskin on Monday. you watch Banner will be on his show next week trying to put a positive spin on this. news flash-you stepped over the line this time--you will regret it. Waldo Banner must go---please take your pompous, we're better than everyone else attitude, back to New England---p.s. Lurie your movies stunk also.

You know as much as I love football and the Eagles I dont like this move but if Any of us were putting our money where our mouths are maybe we'd evaluate the decline in Dawks on field skills. It's never easy letting such a great player go.. but It's harder for a player to know when they are done.. Look at Emmit the cowboys let him go at the right time.. he had some left in the tank but not enough for a team like the eagles to grab him.. Why do you all get on Laurie for making a good business move and saving money?? Dawk is one of my favorite players but why keep him around if he's lost a few steps and cant cover TE's and last year this team got smoked by TE's and WR's exploiting his drop in performance. Dave76- The stupid and cheap dumb asses paid Loser J Smith $5 million last year. He did nothing last year or in prior years. They could have guaranteed Dawk $7M over 2 years and kept their defensive leader. Eff the Eagles, Lurie, Banner and Reid. I am not a Broncos fan.
Comment removed.- I'm mad as hell at the FO but madder at myself. for 13 years under this regime I actually thought they wanted to win a SB--I was duped--this team cares as much about winning a Championship as I care for Banner & Lurie. I was cursed from birth-born an Eagles fan & today I'm dying inside an Eagles fan.
- MCNABB IS NEXT AFTER THIS TEAM HAS NO LOYALTY TO THEIR PLAYERS
Although I believe dawk is finished, this is one they needed to do for the city and the fans....at least Braman was honest (he was in for the money) these guys just act like they invented the game.. smcgov1029- So long, Dawk. Thanks for everything. Take care of yourself. We wont forget you. force10
FIRE REID AND BANNER. They blew our window of opportunity. Nezhy
Wake up Eagles fans..they don't want the ring. When will you losers wake up and stop supporting Lurie & Reid. Ignore their spin from Spadaro and Eskin, and boycott them. Spend your $ on a winner like the Phillies. Nezhy
Who cares. Good Bye. Best years far behind. Maybe the Birds will finally be able to stop someone when they need to. Also i fell he was always a borderline dirty player. Reggie92
Did any one posting a comment see a single Eagles game over the last few years? Brian Dawkins gave up several touchdowns last year and the year before. His best years are behind him and you all know it! You dont make a big money commitment to a guy with little upside at this point in his carrier. It's easy to slam Reid and Lurie but at the end it was the right thing to do and we all know it. Tf_76ers
All these people who are now bemoaning Dawkins leaving are the same ones who were ready to hang him the first three games last year, when he couldn't cover a tight end to save his life. The loss is more of an emeotional leader than it is the loss of a player. The player can be replaced. The leader can't. It certainly isn't Mr. McSoftee. Bama
