Statements from Lurie and Reid

POSTED: Saturday, February 28, 2009, 4:05 PM

I just posted on Brian Dawkins' departure so be sure to check out that entry, which includes a YouTube highlight video of No. 20.

But this statement from the Eagles just popped in my inbox. Here are statements from Jeffrey Lurie and Andy Reid on Dawkins' departure.

From Lurie:

“Brian Dawkins has been one of the pillars of this franchise for 13 years. He helped lead us to five NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl. Brian embodies everything you look for in a professional athlete and human being. I have been fortunate to witness his impeccable character, his passion for the game of football and his commitment to being the best player he could be. I look forward to continuing a close relationship with him once his playing days are over. His legacy as an Eagle will last forever and will ultimately land him in Canton as a Hall of Famer.”

From Reid:

“Brian is one of the best players in franchise history and one of the most popular players to ever play in the city of Philadelphia. The Eagles organization, as well as the entire fan base, will miss him not only as a player but as a tremendous person. This is the toughest part of my job, no question. He gave this city 13 years of emotional, energetic football. We wish Brian and his family nothing but the best as he continues his career in Denver.”

As difficult as it might be, please try to refrain from using obscenities with your comments.

Their statements are full of hollow words. Their utter phoniness reeks. As usual with this team, it's their way or the highway. Yet the ticket buyers and the club box snobs will continue to pour their money into this carpetbagger's pockets and let the arrogant bloated failure continue to reign.

Dawk, I hope the fans in Denver appreciate what they now have. Best of luck, and thanks for bringing everyting, every game, every play.

They wouldn't give a player like Dawkins $9mm over two years? They are $48mm under the cap for God's sake. What's the difference?

It just shows the callous nature of Eagles management, once again. Banner is nothing but a nerdy accountant, Lurie also, all they care about is the almighty dollar. What a sad day. Can we please get Banner Lurie and Reid outtttttttta here?

According to a source, the deal is for five years and $17 million. The deal could escalate to as much as $27 million if Dawkins can reach some achievable performance levels.

Mr. Lurie, Mr.Banner......I un-regretfully wish to tell you as an out of town fan, one whom travels to at least 2 away games a year, purchases team merchandise faithfully, for myself as well as that for my entire family including two small children ( a 3 yr old girl whom needs to hear the eagles fight song before going to sleep at night)end our relationship with your Money First Organization immediatly. no longer will you get a second of my time or a penny of my earnings. as I was in attendence of a Great Sports Owners funeral today...The Great Larry Miller.....it summons me to ask of you in parting....learn more about that man, he understood and His Family Understands ownership of a franchise such as yours isnt about being THE BOSS as much as it is being a Steward over something great that belongs to a Community.....you have proved yet again your organization has much to learn....... Thanks for the Memories #20........

It's unrealistic to expect people to give up their tickets and even if they do, there's a long waiting list of people who will take their place. I recommend taking any money you might be inclined to give to the various Eagles charities (Eagles Youth Partnership, etc.) and donate it to some other worthy causes. If all of a sudden their charitable donations dropped by 30 or 40 or 50 percent, I think that would send a message to the carpetbagger.

I can give you the response from these two losers once McNabb or some other important piece of this team leaves. Let me know if you think it sounds familiar. “Donavan McNabb has been one of the pillars of this franchise for 10 years. He helped lead us to five NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl. Donavan embodies everything you look for in a professional athlete and human being. I have been fortunate to witness his impeccable character, his passion for the game of football and his commitment to being the best player he could be. I look forward to continuing a close relationship with him once his playing days are over. His legacy as an Eagle will last forever and will ultimately land him in Canton as a Hall of Famer.”

Best wishes to Bdawks for a continued success in his new venture and future endeavors. I think Bdawks wants to prove to the eagles and some fan (myself included) out there that he still has something left in the tank...whether thats true or not remains to be seen. I thought he was liability on pass coverage early on in the season but he came up big in the ladder part of the season. I wishes him nothing but the best...and, i as far i am concern, Bdawk will always be an eagle. hopefully, as an eagle coach after his playing days are over!!! lets go birds!

Dawk was agreat player. Age slows every body down, even Dawk. The Eagles are a team. They have to put the best group of players forward. Dawk has lost a step. He just cannot cover as well as he did. For the team ,you have to move on. I do not think Lurie is scum.I think he is the best owner the Eagles have ever had. He and the organization is trying to put the best team possible. You cannot play players millions of dollars because they are good people. They are paid to play pro football. I love Dawk and all what he did for us, but we all age and that is life. I wish him well. Kris

I have a Dawkins jersey, but this is the right move- he'll be 36 this year and is starting to slow. The team needs to think with its head, not its heart.

Gold Standard my eye. They act like they got a cabinet full of Super Bowl trophies. As long as this crew runs this team the only trophy we will win is the cap cup!
