Simms predicts no playoffs for Eagles
CBS analyst Phil Simms predicts that two NFC East teams will go to the playoffs. The Eagles are not one of them. Plus a couple notes on Eagles injuries and Donovan McNabb.
Simms predicts no playoffs for Eagles
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
CBS analyst Phil Simms had positive things to say about Kevin Kolb during a radio interview earlier this month.
But Simms doesn't think the Eagles are playoff-bound in 2010. Instead, he predicts the Cowboys to take the division and go to the Super Bowl. He also has the Giants as in as a wild-card team.
CBS released Simms' predictions via e-mail. He announced them on TV last week. In the NFC, he's got the Saints, Vikings and 49ers as the other division winners. And Simms predicts that the Packers win the other wild-card spot.
In the AFC, he's got the Jets, Bengals, Colts and Chargers as the division winners, with the Patriots and Ravens earning wild-card berths. Simms has the Colts meeting the Cowboys in the Super Bowl.
EAGLES AND INJURIES
Interesting look at league-wide injuries from our friend Bill Barnwell over at Football Outsiders. Barnwell takes a look at injury reports from 2007 to 2009 to determine which teams under-report injuries and which teams over-report injuries.
The Eagles play the guys on their injury report 3.8 percent more than the league average. In other words, they slightly over-report injuries, according to this study.
Only six teams in the league played the guys on their injury report more frequently than the Eagles: the Jets (13.4%), the Falcons (8.1%), the Browns (6.7%), the Chargers (6.7%), the Bucs (4.9%) and the Cardinals (4.0%).
The Chiefs, Colts and Seahawks played the guys on their injury report the least over the three-year span.
STICKING UP FOR MCNABB
At least one national columnist thinks it's about time Donovan McNabb stuck up for himself. Referencing comments McNabb made to GQ last week, Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com writes that the former Eagles quarterback should have stuck up for himself earlier:
Finally, after so many years of biting his tongue, of playing the polite politician, of being afraid to offend anyone, of fearing telling some Philly fan where to stuff his cheesesteak, Donovan McNabb has finally and forcefully defended himself. Thank you, Donovan. Thank you, thank you, thank you. It's about time.
EARLIER TODAY
I took a detailed look at Kevin Kolb's performance against the Chiefs in a new weekly feature: What about Kolb?
I also have today's video report up, with clips from Mike McGlynn and Trent Cole.

this guy is a joke. He picked every easy pick. there is always upsets throughout season. The eagles do turn it on late some times and so what if kolb struggles on a few games he would be like every other qb in the league. I think kolb knows what he needs to do and if he succeeds this team has the potential to make the eagles a 10-6 team and possibly a 11-5 team. thefuzz91
You are right......yes...I agree....you are right about jtj06...pure dooooosh. philly449- Anybody else think jtj06 is the biggest compulsive dchbag on these boards?
McNabb has been the most scrutinized and publicly criticized (by a HUGE margin)QB in the past decade, yet has an outstanding record during that same time frame. Where is the rational explanation for this disparity? Exactly....there is none. It's beyond irrational and has been manifested by the media to the point where it's basically insane. The guy played hard for the Eagles and deserves credit and respect. Lose the hatred. people. philly449
No surprise, anyone who has been looking at the Eagles O'Line knows they are in serious trouble. Drew777
Comment removed.- Darooky, I had exactly the same thought when I read the blurb, thanks for looking it up and confirming my suspicions. You McNabb loving apologists just keep shouting, its what you are good at. Logic, not so much. blaqjaq
Simms was always one of the best in the NFL, taking the Giants to the Super Bowls, unlike the Eagles going NOWHERE! when he says the Eagles will not be in the playoffs, I can say that is just about 99% true because of this team. I hope the Eagles have fun playing against their divison teams like Dallas, Giants, and Redskins. Nice story on this pathetic team Simms! MRD
THESE BIRDS WILL SUCK AND EVERY ONE OF YOU WILL MAKE EXCUSES FOR KLOB. BUT GET USED TO MORE 9-7, 8-8, 7-9 SEASONS...SMILE YOU DESERVE IT...3RD RATE CITY...4TH RATE TEAM. AND IT'S FUNNY THAT THERE ARE MANY POSTS HERE THAT ARE RACIST AND NEGATIVE AND THAT MAKES ALL OF US LOOK BAD...FOR EVERY ME (NON-RACIST WHITE DUDE) THERE ARE 50 OF YOU (CLOSET RACIST WHITE DUDES THAT THINK THAT JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE WHITE TOO THEY CAN TELL YOU OFFENSIVE 'INSIDE' JOKES ABOUT YOUR CO-WORKERS, ETC) GET A LIFE AND GET BACK TO WORK AND STOP WORRYING ABOUT MINORITIES TAKING YOUR JOBS. McNabbisbetterthanyouareWOLF
Good grief, more apologies from Wolf. "The birds have a brutal second half schedule." Must be about excuse 6 or 7 now, and the season hasn't even begun. Remember your quote from last year, Wolf: "KK will win the SB within two years, or sooner." Tick tock. birdseed
TO MIKE DAROOKEY...OR RATHER MIKE DOOKY....IT'S FUNNY THAT YOU MENTIONED THE RACE OF THE REPORTER AS A WAY OF MAKING HIS COMMENTS A RACE ISSUE...SPEAKS TO YOUR LACK OF MATURITY AND CLASS. McNabbisbetterthanyouareWOLF
Phil thought Jay Cutler was a great QB! Romus- As long as Ernie Sims is not predicting no Eagles playoffs... JohnFC

Darookey....the NAACP leader bashed McNabb.....is doesn't get much more ridiculous than THAT! Your thinking is flawed. McNabb should have laid to waste all of the idiots out there, but he has too much class. philly449
Funny how NO Expert knows anything according to the genuis fans that post here UNLESS it pertains to ripping McNabb..you know like Baldy, Hopkins and Ike (WIP Koon) Reese... RoastedBird
10-6 at worst folks. The Eagles will win the East. Cowboys are OVERATTED and they suck. briandawkins20- This is the annual pre-season prediction the Eagles will not be a playoff team. This prediction has been occurring most years. This year may finally come to pass. No big deal in the overall scheme of things. The Eagles will progress. Too bad us fans think not to make the playoffs is disaster. Looking at the NFL, every year there are teams in and out of the playoffs. What to really look for is improvement from the Eagles between the first and last games. road515
the birds have a brutal second half schedule, even if they win 10 games it may not be enough to make the playoffs......phil simms is not in the hall of fame ken stabler-drew bledsoe-boomer esianson-randall cunningham-jim plunkett are not in the hall of fame, mcfraud get in line it is only getting longer, mcfraud will never get the call to the hall-book it......wolf. wolf 4
Isn't Mike Freeman the guy who got fired for pretending to graduate college? Seems right that he would overlook the McNabb drama of the last many years. Anyone think McNabb is not a compulsive liar re overtime rules? jtj06
It's all Howie rosemas fault! FrankRizzosGhost

I don't see the reason to make a deadlock prediction for this team. A team with youth like the eagles can finish at the top of the division or in the back of the pack if one thing goes wrong. That can happen with any team, really. But when you have a team starting young guys all over the place, your confidence can be very touchy. A couple of tough losses at the beginning of the year could spell the end, but then again if this team starts off hot, who knows what could happen. That's why they play the game, Mr. Simms...PS: What the heck does anyone see in the giants that makes them a playoff team in so many eyes??? They are the same aging team that fell apart last year. Omorales510- Oh, I see, because he played for the Giants, he's not to be trusted. Heh. Whatever keeps the deluded fan base drinking the Kool-Aid I guess. When the team goes 7-9 don't say you weren't warned.
BABYARM! U ARE WHO I THOUGHT YOU WERE!!!! AYE!!! BooDuhBud
he meant no payoffs for the Eagles. Guess local 98 isn't sponsoring a game this year. dragoon6
Phil Simms is one of the most respected and classy analysts in the game. He should state the obvious: the Eagles will win a max of 7 games for their angry, miserable fan base this year. JerseyExit63
That's why they play the game. phillyart- Phil Simms is not to be trusted...GO 'BIRDS' johnnyu
What does Simms see in the Giants? They have a shaky o-line, overrated receivers and a mediocre defense. At least the Eagles have the rebuilding excuse. p-diddy
Cowboys, Packers, Saints, Vikings and NFC West division winner- they're all in. Birds have to beat out SkinS and Giants for 6th playoff spot- and I guess the Falcons too. Those 4 for one spot left.Rest of NFC is weak. friedmozzarela
I think everyone should realize this team has as much chance to miss the playoffs as make them. So I don't know why you guys would be reacting so salty about this. It's a fair prediction. Menace.II.Sobriety
jeez I guess I won't even follow the season now. Oh he also thinks his son didn't inhale sooooo dabirds
He's a former Giants QB. Who cares what he thinks. PhillyFanSouth
