Simms, Collinsworth: Vick's the right choice
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
Experts and analysts around the country are chiming in with opinions on Andy Reid's decision to start Michael Vick over Kevin Kolb.
Two of the more higher-profile ones, Phil Simms and Cris Collinsworth, think Reid would have had a tough time convincing the locker room to believe in Kolb after Vick played so well against Green Bay and Detroit.
"If Mike Vick didn’t start this week there would have been a revolution in the locker room, amongst the coaches and amongst the fans," Collinsworth said on Showtime's Inside the NFL, which airs Wednesday night. "It doesn’t mean that they won’t ultimately end up back at Kevin Kolb, they could. Michael Vick, let’s face it, he’s a little older, he doesn’t always stand in the pocket, follow the game plan. I am sure it’s difficult to coach. He is not going to do everything the coaches want him to do, but he creates in a way that we’ve never seen in this league."
The part about creating in a way we've never seen is a key point. Today at NovaCare, pretty much every receiver pointed to Vick's ability to extend plays when asked what he brings to the table.
Simms agreed with Collinsworth that Vick is the right choice.
"I guess Andy Reid realized he had to stand in front of the team," Simms said. "And the team watches the film and I think you guys will agree players really always know... the last six quarters that Michael Vick has played there is really nothing, even if you are a Michael Vick hater, what are you going to complain about? His running is still extraordinary. And what people always forget about Michael Vick, he has an extraordinary arm."
And finally, Warren Sapp, a guy who has played against Vick, chimed in.
"We remember the old Michael Vick, the last one in the building the first one out," Sapp said. "It’s a different guy now. He is coming in and working on his craft as a quarterback. And you can see it in his film work. You watch him drop back and read things out and delivering the ball. He always has a wonderful arm and even better legs. But now he has his mental game coming along. When you are actually preparing and you know where your outlets are, how to get out of a play, the checks and the different stuff that you have to make. He’s a different quarterback now."
Earlier today, I posted a video with reaction from the Eagles' locker room.
And this morning, I did Man Up, taking a look at the offensive line.

- the most amusing thing about Donovanwitarealscummyteamnow's post is the fact that he called us idiots for not knowing the deadskins lost the game because the d gave up a 4th n 10 td and special teams missed a fg. weird then that mike vick barely beat the lions...WHEN HIS TEAM WAS UP 35-17 AND THE DEFENSE GAVE UP A TD AND THE SPECIAL TEAMS FAILED TO RECOVER AN ONSIDE KICK. you can say everyone laughs at "egals" (clever....) fans, but in reality eagles fans laugh at all the other idiots who dont know anything about sports MPatt24
Donavan is right the redskins had a chance to win the game but someone on the sidelines called a timeout, the kicker made the fieldgoal but the timeout nullified it. He missed the second attempt. The eagles almost let detroit come back and win. Boy is Oct 3 going to be exciting. As for Kolb, this says a lot for Reid's faith in him. I think Reid saw something outsiders didn't see and decided to go with the hot hand until it's no longer sucessful. gwilli1234- the most amusing thing about Donovanwitarealscummyteamnow's post is the fact that he called us idiots for not knowing the deadskins lost the game because the d gave up a 4th n 10 td and special teams missed a fg. weird then that mike vick barely beat the lions...WHEN HIS TEAM WAS UP 35-17 AND THE DEFENSE GAVE UP A TD AND THE SPECIAL TEAMS FAILED TO RECOVER AN ONSIDE KICK. you can say everyone laughs at "egals" (clever....) fans, but in reality eagles fans laugh at all the other idiots who dont know anything about sports. get a clue and "learn football" CLOWN. Comment removed.- "Vick barely beat Detroit." The game I watched saw the "offense put up 35 points including some running back named McCoy or something run wild. Ho Hum I agree Let vick take the pounding and maybe we will build an offensive line or maybe A.R. will realize he HAS a running game. But right now the only guy in the NFL that could play QB in Philly is Vick. funsoaz
This is all about having the best chance to win in week four. Laurie & Co. could not live with themselves with getting mopped up by McNabb and the Skins as Kolb goes through growing pains of learning on the job. Also, if the Birds win in week four, Eagles brass win three ways and get to prove how smart they are again: traded McNabb, signed and developed Vick and Kept Reid and beat the 'new' coach in the East, Shanahan. If Kolb played against J'ville he probably would have been decent and the Birds would win(J'ville worst team in the NFL). Then what do you do for the Skins game knowing Vick has the better chance to win in that game. Bench Kolb after his first win as the new franchise QB? For a guy that never tells you anything, he has built the reputation that when he does firmly make a statement, once he has time to think it through, the result will be the complete opposite. This is why he is a horrible game day coach, he cannot think on his feet and make changes on the fly. Reid is not stubborn or a liar, just slow and stupid. Wait until we get into the teeth of this schedule, things are going to get real ugly. GoBirds!!!!!!! gobirds17- I think Donkey-Kong Soo is going to wreck a lot of O-lines in his career. Vick did play well, and that's the bottom line. I hope Reid doesn't start catering to the writers in this town because 9 out 10 of them are morons.
Michael Vick was amazing against DT,,, however it was the D that was sad! Sean McDermott has gotta go! osi is hurt boohoo
@Donovan WITA - nice spelling there - your more thug than Vick, plus your statements show your ignorance . You condemn Vick for what our defense did in the last 5 minutes basically - but Dmac had no result on allowing those 20 unanswered points the Deadskins gave up. Please laugh at us - we only have the best winning percentage, most wins and 3rd least points given up by any teams in the NFC in the last decade. Yes - no rings - but it hs been MUCH more fun than you have had watching your pathetic team have what like 3 winning seasons during that same span - and 1 playoff win whoo hoo we are so jealous of you guys - thats like a wino on the street laughing at a guy carring a suitcase wearing a Brooks Brothers suit. You down WIT'it brother....? ConcreteCharlie
guess vick was playing defense vs detroit DonovanwitaRealTeamNow. you made the same comment regarding skins vs houston that it wasnt donovans fault they gave up the TD in the 4th. Same deal with Vick. Youre clearly a genius. Scrumtrulescent. tripschaos
