Shooting at club after Vick's birthday celebration

Reports have surfaced today about a shooting outside a nightclub in Virginia Beach, Va. where Eagles backup quarterback Michael Vick was having his birthday party Thursday night.

Reports have varying degrees of detail, but here's a roundup of what we know, and what we don't know at this point.

One of Vick's lawyers, Larry Woodward, says Vick was neither involved nor present when the shooting occurred, according to the Associated Press. A police spokesman told the AP that a man sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being shot around 2 a.m. outside the club Guadalajara.

The Daily Press, meanwhile, reports that one of Vick's co-defendants in the 2007 federal dogfighting trial, Quanis Phillips, was admitted to the Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital early this morning and was listed in good condition, but the report could not confirm that Phillips was the man who had been shot. Phillips was sentenced to 21 months after pleading guilty in the dogfighting trial.

David Squires, who writes about urban affiars for the Daily Press, is told by sources that Phillips was at the party. Per Squires, there was a confrontation that moved outside the club, and Phillips was the man who was shot. Squires writes that it's unclear whether Vick was present at the time of the shooting, but he was not there when the police arrived.

Vick turns 30 on Saturday. Last week, a survey publised in Forbes named him the most disliked athlete in America.

Earlier today, I wrote about whether the Eagles lacked an elite player on their current roster.

If the person with the gun was at his party by invitation, doesn't that go against his parole or release about associating with or being around people with guns? I'm sure Michael Vick is completely innocent and has no idea what anyone is talking about. Yeah right.

Wonder how quick he scrambled out the back door after he heard those shots go off. By George, the kid can still run!

    A) Everybody: Let's leave ignorant, racist comments off these boards...does it occur to anybody that some whites will defend Vick, and some African-Americans can't stand him either? B) For those who were saying that he wasn't there, it was his own da_n party - can you read? Now, he may not have been there at the time of the shooting, and he may have had nothing to do with the escalation of the incident or the shooting, but that's all conjecture. 3) At the least he's guilty of poor judgment, he may have violated the terms of his probation (seems likely) and may - at worst - have been involved somehow in the shooting. Beyond poor judgment, I don't have the answers. Maybe, we'll find out the truth.

This is why this guy shouldn't be in football much less a QB. He takes the millions and does whatever he pleases. No you can't have a party with hundreds of guests when you are on parole/suspended sentence if any of those guests are felons or people you are required to steer clear of. Who would trust this guy to make on field and in public decisions for a billion+ dollar organization?
