Shooting at club after Vick's birthday celebration

Reports have surfaced today about a shooting outside a nightclub in Virginia Beach, Va. where Eagles backup quarterback Michael Vick was having his birthday party Thursday night.

Reports have varying degrees of detail, but here's a roundup of what we know, and what we don't know at this point.

One of Vick's lawyers, Larry Woodward, says Vick was neither involved nor present when the shooting occurred, according to the Associated Press. A police spokesman told the AP that a man sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being shot around 2 a.m. outside the club Guadalajara.

The Daily Press, meanwhile, reports that one of Vick's co-defendants in the 2007 federal dogfighting trial, Quanis Phillips, was admitted to the Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital early this morning and was listed in good condition, but the report could not confirm that Phillips was the man who had been shot. Phillips was sentenced to 21 months after pleading guilty in the dogfighting trial.

David Squires, who writes about urban affiars for the Daily Press, is told by sources that Phillips was at the party. Per Squires, there was a confrontation that moved outside the club, and Phillips was the man who was shot. Squires writes that it's unclear whether Vick was present at the time of the shooting, but he was not there when the police arrived.

Vick turns 30 on Saturday. Last week, a survey publised in Forbes named him the most disliked athlete in America.

Earlier today, I wrote about whether the Eagles lacked an elite player on their current roster.

His personal life aside, if he regains his speed and athleticism, I'll be glad he's on the team. After several camps and probably some decent playing time in the pre-season, he should regain at least some of the form he had. He's far from a great QB but he would be someone that opposing D's would have to plan for if used effectively. Plus if Kolb starts "stinking up the linc" at least there's an experienced pro behind him

Why is this even remotely a story? Wait, they found a Mike Vick football card on the victim of an apparent serial killer. Let's get Vick! C'mon now. He wasn't even there, for crying out loud. What's worse are the morons on the board posting like he was there trying to shoot homeless children or something.

Am I missing something.... Where does it say the club was on his property? He killed a couple of dogs, so what....and I'm a dog owner. Brett Myers beat his wife (a human), everyone was cheering that at bat against CC in '08. There was a shooting at a club where someone could have died, and I see comments about the Eagles putting a spin on it. No spin needed, Vick didnt shoot anyone. I'm just wondering when animal life was more precious then human life. And I just got done shooting a Moose...for fun..Palin style, anyone want to lock me up?

Some of you are so blinded by skin color, you don't make an ounce of sense. The article said he wasn't at the club, nor was he involved....I guess he is responsible for every bad thing that happens even if he was home in bed sleeping, huh? Grow up!!!! You loser will defend dogs, before you will defend women that are abused...I guess that's because you have dogs, but no women will bother with you, huh? If it was Farve, Manning, or Brady all would be forgiven by now...hypocrits.

I agree with syddan26, Vick is a moron, and I don't understand why the Birds signed him. I think he did his time and he should be able to play in the NFL, but why in Philly??? The Wildcat formation? He never was a really good QB, he was just super athletic and quick. I never understood that signing even from a pure football angle.

Getting out of jail, getting a second chance at a privileged life, then hanging out with people involved in the activities that put you in jail is dumb no matter what color your skin is.

so i guess just because he was at the club that night makes him guilty automatically in some peoples eyes. no matter what he does, some people will hate him. if vick had nothing to do with the shooting, then all these posters hating on him should be adults and apologize. but of course that means you have to have some sense which doesnt seem to be a quality that these losers have.

you freaks don't know s**t from shine-ola! where in the article did it say Vick was "with" this guy? sorry, but the guy could've come on his own, maybe to start some trouble. you "assume" he was an invited guest. and it was a public place, not on his property. dam, did you read the freakin' story? and if you have a list with the names already provided and you're asked to pick one is that really an accurate way to determine the most anything, hated or otherwise? freakin' idiots!
