Runyan: Eagles still my top choice

Offensive tackle Jon Runyan joined WIP's Morning Show today to provide an update on his rehab and a timetable for when he'll be ready to get back on the field.

But probably most important to this crowd is that Runyan left the door open for a possible return to the Eagles.

When asked if the Birds remained his top choice, here's what Runyan said:

"I mean, they are. I would love to stay here. It'd be great, make my life a lot easier, but I'm not gonna say that's the only option because there are other options out there. Ultimately, it comes down to making some money and you gotta do what you gotta do."

Runyan said he has an appointment a week from today with Dr. James Andrews to check out his knee.

"He hasn't allowed me just to run yet so I gotta make sure I can do that first of all and work through that," he said. "So it'll probably take a week to figure all that out and then start playing with the phones and getting some tryouts."

Runyan said he's talked to several teams, and a handful of them are ready to jump on him, provided he can show his knee is healthy.

He said missing training camp is not a big deal at this point in his career, and if anything, it will give him more energy during the regular season.

But does he think he can be ready for Week 1?

"I don't have any doubt that that can happen," Runyan said. "It's just a matter of going in. It's probably gonna take a week, maybe week-and-a-half to knock all the rust off, but been doing this for such a long time now, it's kind of second nature to me so I don't think there's gonna have to be a lot of reps to pick that kind of stuff up."

Other than Jeremy Maclin's absence, the injuries to the offensive line has probably been the biggest story line at Lehigh so far. Shawn Andrews, who was penciled in to replace Runyan as the team's starting right tackle, has yet to see the practice field after tweaking his back injury during a run on Thursday.

Jason Peters, the starting left tackle, practiced for the first time yesterday but has not participated in the full-contact portion of practice yet.

And right guard Stacy Andrews hasn't gone full contact either.

I'm on my way back to Lehigh in a few hours for the 2:45 practice.
