Rumor roundup: Asking price for Cutler?
Here's an early-morning roundup of the Jay Cutler watch.
In case you missed it, last night we cited a Washington Post report, which said the Redskins were actively pursuing a trade for Cutler. The report also heard from a source that Washington had contacted a team about dealing Jason Campbell for a second-round pick in April's draft.
Meanwhile, Cutler spoke to Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com last night and said he didn't want to be traded.
"I was surprised they decided to trade me this soon," Cutler told Glazer. "I didn't want to get traded. This wasn't me. (The Broncos) had been going back and forth saying things, wanting me to be their quarterback and then they didn't."
"I really didn't want this. I love Denver. I really like my teammates. I didn't want it to get this far."
A source tells Glazer and Alex Marvez that the asking price for Cutler is believed to be greater than a first- and third-round pick.
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the Broncos have informed teams they want at least two first-round picks for Cutler, and receiving a quarterback in return is not a necessity.
Mike Mulligan of The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Broncos have been so swamped with teams wanting to talk about Cutler that they've demanded clubs contact them via e-mail or text.
''Nobody can get a call back,'' a league source told Mulligan. ''It could mean something's happening fast, or maybe they're just overwhelmed.''
Mulligan's source said the Broncos would prefer to trade the QB to an NFC team. Cutler told FoxSports.com he believes he'll end up in the NFC also.
UPDATE (1:31 p.m.): Throw the Jets' name into the mix for Cutler as well. Per Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News, the Jets spent Wednesday coming up with a strategy to land Cutler. Cimini also reports that the asking price could get as high as two first-round picks. Two NFL sources tell Mike Klis of The Denver Post that the Redskins and Jets have been the most aggressive suitors for Cutler's services.
