Burress, Braylon and Boldin

Yesterday, we brought you the news that the Giants had cut ties with wide receiver Plaxico Burress.

Today, we gain insight as to why the G-Men made the move.

According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, Burress rejected one final offer to stay, and the team was convinced that he did not have a changed attitude.

Per Vacchiano, the Giants offered Burress a new deal that would have nixed the five-year, $35 million deal he signed last season. But Burress' camp refused all attempts to settle, and the two sides went to an arbitration hearing on Wednesday.

A source told Vacchiano that Burress showed no signs he was willing to change since the shooting incident, and the team did not believe he wanted to be a part of the Giants anymore.

"Jerry [Reese] has said all along that if everything works out and Plax demonstrates he wants to be here with a desire to be part of this thing, (then) yes, we want him back," said one of the sources. "Well, the fact is that we've been given no reason to think things will be any different in the future than they have been in the past."

"Ultimately, Plax's attitude is: I don't owe them, they owe me," a source told Vacchiano.

So the obvious question now is -- where do the Giants go from here?

The team reportedly inquired about adding Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards earlier this offseason. Will they try to explore that option once again?

For what it's worth (and it might not be much), Edwards' ex-teammate Kellen Winslow doesn't think Edwards will remain with the Browns for the 2009 season.

"For some reason I don't (think he'll play for the Browns in 2009)," Winslow said on The Sirius Blitz, per Vacchiano. "I know Braylon would love to go to New York. The Giants would fit him to the 'T' and he would have so much fun up there. I know he loves Cleveland but New York would be a great fit for him."

So there's that.

And the other player is one whose every move we've followed this offseason -- Anquan Boldin.

While we've written about Boldin approximately 2,000 times this offseason, no one seems to know if he'll remain in Arizona next season.

Most recently, Boldin did the sportstalk radio thing. You'll remember this from T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who went on ESPN 950 saying he'd be interested in playing for the Eagles before the start of free agency.

Boldin went on ESPN Radio 760 in Palm Beach, saying he'd love to play for the Dolphins.

"I would love to," Boldin said of playing for the Dolphins, per The Miami Herald. "You know, I'm a Florida guy, always will be a Florida guy at heart. If it happens, I'll definitely be grateful."

Boldin was asked where he thinks he's going to end up.

"Honestly, I don't know," he told the radio station. "It's at a point right now where there's not any discussion between myself and the team. When something does happen, I'll let my agent take care of it. I guess he'll converse with the GM or management ... It's a tough situation and you definitely don't want this hanging over your head going into another season, especially it being a couple of years past due…"

As I've said a million times, it really doesn't matter where Boldin wants to play. The Cardinals have all the leverage since he is still under contract.

And so here we are. No breaks in the NFL offseason, which was the reason for this blog in the first place. Boldin, Burress, Edwards, Jason Taylor, Julius Peppers, etc. All issues still to be resolved.
