Rob Ryan: Eagles are all hype

Rob Ryan surely remembers how good the Eagles-Cowboys rivalry was when his dad was coaching the Birds.

So perhaps it should come as no surprise that he's doing his part to get everyone fired up now that he's in the NFC East.

Ryan, who took over as the Cowboys defensive coordinator this offseason, took a shot at the new-look Eagles, according to Clarence E. Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

"I've got three bullies over there waiting for Thursday," Ryan said of his defensive line addition. "These are proven players, and that's what we need. I don't know if we win the all-hype team, I think that might have gone to somebody else, but we're going to beat their ass when we play them."

Ryan, of course, did not name the Eagles, but given all the headlines the Birds have made with the Dream Team and Miami Heat references, it's hard to imagine he was referring to anyone else.

One of the new Eagles apparently heard about Ryan's comments and responded. Here's a Tweet from Cullen Jenkins:

Talk is cheap. Let them talk. We are focused here and I could care less. We are worried about ourselves n getting better. He must be nervous

The truth is the Eagles should get used to having a target on their back. They are going to be a popular Super Bowl pick nationally and have raised expectations with their recent signings.

As for the Cowboys, they come to Philadelphia in Week 8 (Oct. 30), and the Birds travel to Dallas in Week 16 for a Christmas Eve matchup.

Until we play for keeps Ryan is right - partially. The Birds are the defending NFC East Champs and an improved team, and therefore worthy of some respect. Let Ryan run his lips & sell tickets for Jerry, we'll see him in October...

Just goes to prove that he is worried about the Eagles if he has the time to talk about them. Shouldnt he be coaching his team how to play. Back to work Ryan stop giving yourself publicity.

No hype. Ryan's got the most obscenely fat belly of any NFL coach except for..
nobody. Jeez, compared to those guys, Andy Reid could be a diva.

He's a disheveled windbag. Stick a pin in him (which the Eagles will do at least twice this year) and ballon-like he spirals out of sight with a screeching squeeking cry "Hey I think I'm losing weight!!! Somebody throw me a cheeseburger!!! and a dbl-chocolate-shake!!!!"

Off topic: has anybody ever seen Al Michaels upper teeth? I just noticed on SportsCenter that his only visible choppers are the lower rack. Now that it's noticable, it's disconcerting and hard to watch. Weird.

Hmm.. who would I rather have had as the Eagles' defensive coordinator? Either Ryan brother, or Juan Castillo. Hmm. Give me the 4-3 with the 46 attitude and 46-like pressuring alignments any time. My only hope is that Jeff Fisher successfully sold Washburn on his variants of the 46!

not possibly because Juan is hispasnic, right? The Ryan brothers haven't done diddly. For that matter, until this season's in the books, neither has Juan. But at least he doesn't have a negative track record in his position yet, a la the Ryan Iron Pigs.

Until the Eagles do something, we are, in fact, the all-hype team. There's a reason people are excited about this season, but so far it's all on paper.

Rob only has a job because his last name is Ryan! Talk about riding your dad and brother's coattails!

Kinda funny in some ways. Sports center sports analyst said the Eagles were the NFC contenders for the Superbowl this past week. Nothing was said about Dallas. Really doesn't matter what Rob Ryan thinks
