Rob Ryan: Eagles are all hype

Rob Ryan surely remembers how good the Eagles-Cowboys rivalry was when his dad was coaching the Birds.

So perhaps it should come as no surprise that he's doing his part to get everyone fired up now that he's in the NFC East.

Ryan, who took over as the Cowboys defensive coordinator this offseason, took a shot at the new-look Eagles, according to Clarence E. Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

"I've got three bullies over there waiting for Thursday," Ryan said of his defensive line addition. "These are proven players, and that's what we need. I don't know if we win the all-hype team, I think that might have gone to somebody else, but we're going to beat their ass when we play them."

Ryan, of course, did not name the Eagles, but given all the headlines the Birds have made with the Dream Team and Miami Heat references, it's hard to imagine he was referring to anyone else.

One of the new Eagles apparently heard about Ryan's comments and responded. Here's a Tweet from Cullen Jenkins:

Talk is cheap. Let them talk. We are focused here and I could care less. We are worried about ourselves n getting better. He must be nervous

The truth is the Eagles should get used to having a target on their back. They are going to be a popular Super Bowl pick nationally and have raised expectations with their recent signings.

As for the Cowboys, they come to Philadelphia in Week 8 (Oct. 30), and the Birds travel to Dallas in Week 16 for a Christmas Eve matchup.

It's nice that the Eagles have made so many great moves, and are a popular Super Bowl pick. The problem is, you still have Andy Reid, and he's proven time and time again, he can't win anything when it counts.

it saddens me cause i love buddy so much (and rex too), didn't i read read a quote that said jerry jones had tears in his eyes when he learned the iggles snagged captain vowels (no joke)? all hype my ask, this team was driving to beat the sb champs with a bunk o-line and bad lbs and secondary (-asante). If maclin/desean comes back and watkins is serviceable... Come on Rob?!? You gotta be an iggles fan man!

Dude! Can somebody say "8 Mile"? You can take the man out of the trailer park ... Then again, he did correctly use "hype", a four letter non-curse word. That's progress.

Rob Ryan talking smack is funny. He got his job from the hype of the Ryan name. Seriously go look at the stats on his defenses...I think he had 1 defense finish above 21st in the league.

Talk may be cheap but I'm guessing Rob Ryan's grocery bill isn't. He looks like a horse blanket thrown over a pile of *rap.

No one would know hype better than the Cowgirls. Weren't they picked to win like 2 out of the last 4 SB's? The buy-a-star program does frequently blow up, but the only true star they got was Asomugha. The other guys are real good but Dream Team is a stretch. I think they got guys that fit their plan, thats what makes it good. In addition, they have the coaching talent to keep these guys grounded, Reid has demonstrated this ability many times. I see the comparison, I just don't think it applies here.
