Reports: Springs to the Patriots

POSTED: Thursday, March 5, 2009, 3:41 PM

According to Shalise Manza Young of The Providence Journal, cornerback Shawn Springs is expected to sign with the New England Patriots.

The Eagles brought in Springs for a visit yesterday, and he revealed that the team was looking at him to play safety.

When reporters from The Inquirer or Daily News have an update on Springs, we'll include it in this post.

Meanwhile, teams are announcing left and right that they don't want Terrell Owens. Earlier, we mentioned the possibility of the Redskins as a possible destination, but Washington V.P. of football operations Vinny Cerrato says the team has "no interest," per redskins.com.

The one team that I have not seen go on the record and deny interest, and that some have rumored to be a possible destination, is the Oakland Raiders.

We'll keep you posted.

UPDATE (6:11 p.m.): Adam Schefter of the NFL Network also reports that Springs and the Patriots have agreed to a deal. Per Schefter, the deal is expected to be signed some time Thursday.

From my count, in our last 15 drafts, we have had 5 players start from the 5th round or later (Celek 5th, Gaither 5th, Cole 5th, Tapeh 5th, Ike Reese 5th) and none after the 5th round. A better bet would be to trade all the picks from 5th, 6th, an 7th rounds to get even 1 4th rounder or better. Starters from rounds 1-4 are 40+.

Good point JLB. Trent was a great pick-up. Your right, I'm just frustrated. It seems like we were built to win now and we have gotten away from that. "They're getting under the cap so they can sign LeBron in 2010" T This is hilarous.

Is it true the Eagles are willing to pay TO,s salary if the Giants sign him? That way he can destroy that team also.

JLB- Cole was a 5th round pick but any idea what round Matt McCoy, Quinten Caver, Todd Pinkston, Freddie Mitchell, Winston Justice were drafted in? Exactly.

ah...a virtual plethora of fifth rounders....i.e. ...bodies for training camp........who cares.....way to go Joe....I am sure you can justify this with your business acumen...

I have to wonder also. I mean tons of money. Some players that could help us yet we aren't signging anyone? Is this a plan or have we become lax or overconfident?

This from your boy on "The Inside".. " If my guesstimate is correct, the Eagles will have four fifth-round draft picks in April, 12 overall". Awesome! Now can pick four guys who won't make the roster.. awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

I need a legitmate answer: What, exactly are the Eagles doing this off-season? I fine with Stacy Andrews and Greg Lewis is a glorified track star. Other then that, what are they doing? Are they really just going to throw a bunch of rookies out there in key positions. Soemone please give me a legit answer.. or a funny one.
