The Eagles have announced that they've agreed to terms with tight end Alex Smith and released TE Tony Curtis.

By our account, Jay Glazer first reported the move via Twitter.

Smith was a third-round draft pick out of Stanford in 2005 and spent the first four years of his career with the Tampa Bay Bucs.

His best season statistically came in 2007 when Smith caught 32 balls for 385 yards and three touchdowns. Last season he started 12 games and had 21 receptions for 250 yards and three scores.

Do you like the addition of Alex Smith?
Yes
No

The Patriots traded a 2010 fifth-round pick for Smith earlier in the offseason but released him over the weekend.

The Giants also reportedly took a look at Smith earlier this week.

So it looks like the Eagles are going to end up with a tight end from the Patriots. It just isn't coming via a trade for A.J. Feeley.

The Eagles stick with two tight ends and seven receivers on their roster -- for the time being. In addition to Smith, they have Brent Celek.

Smith is 27 years old.

On a sidenote, SI.com's Peter King may need to tell Andy Reid to stop lying to him. In yesterday's' MMQB, here's what King wrote:

Everybody asks, Why didn't the Iggles trade for one of New England's tight ends? Simple answer: Andy Reid liked his own backup, Tony Curtis, better than Alex Smith or David Thomas, the guys New England was peddling.

Hmm...
